Welcome to Week 10 of Term 2. This week we celebrated Under 8’s Day. It was extremely well organised and students had an amazing time. Smiley and Nugget were also out and about enjoying the morning with all the students. Report Cards will be emailed out on Thursday afternoon, but they will not be on QParents until early next term. This Friday is our Principal’s Parade.
Resilience Project
This Friday after the Principal’s Parade we bring The Resilience Project to our families. Our school has been incorporating The Resilience Project into our school since the beginning of the year. In the last few weeks I have noticed the
language of some of our students begin to change from negative words to a more positive outlook on life. As a reminder, on Friday of Week Ten we are bringing The Resilience Project to our families. We will have our normal Principal’s Parade, followed by a presentation for all our families on The Resilience Project and how you can be resilient as a family. This will be followed by our open classrooms where you can see Resilience Project lessons in action. Families are then welcome to join your children for a picnic lunch on our grassed area. Please put this day into your calendars.

I wish all our families all the best for the winter break. Hopefully our families will be able to take some time to share quality time together. It will be a great opportunity to log into The Resilience Project Portal and do some activities as a family. You will receive a text from the school after this week's Principal Parade to be able to access The Resilience Portal. This will be Part One of the video series for parents. This will also provide access to the parent and carers hub. Four more videos will be sent via a text next term.
6A are the Term 2 Cool Coin winners. To celebrate this win, 6A are having a free dress day on Friday 21 June. The theme is: Come dressed in your favourite and comfortable Pyjamas.
Wide World of Sports with Mrs Betts
On Monday, Calliope SS took a Boys and a Girls team to compete at the Port Curtis AFL Gala Day. It has been many years since Calliope SS has competed at this competition. Our students had never played AFL before and had only started training three weeks ago. It was a fun day of new experiences! Mrs Betts was super proud of the student’s openness to try new things, and their determination and great sportsmanship on the day. A big thank you to Chappy Suriya who came and helped manage the Girl’s team on her day off. We loved having you there, and your AFL expertise by the end of the day was impressive!
Congratulations to this little super star, kicking lots of goals this year in all kinds of sports! Summer has been selected in the Capricornia team for Rugby League.
Last Friday our Calliope SS Athletes competed at the Country Coast Zone Athletic trials. Calliope SS students were very competitive and won the Country Coast Zone trophy. Congratulations to Summer, Evan and Lilly for also winning Age Champion! Many of these athletes will now compete at the Port Curtis Athletic trials next term.
It has been a busy and productive term for our Year 5C students.
In English and Science, our focus has been on creating informative texts
and exploring the solar system. Each student conducted research to
describe key features of the solar system, contributions to scientific
knowledge, and the impact of scientific developments on society.
In Maths, we delved into transformations, locations, angles, and shapes,
expanding our understanding in these areas.
Week 7 brought us an exciting opportunity to participate in Year 5
Camp at the Boyne Island Environmental Education Centre. Additionally,
we showcased our Athleticism and teamwork at the Year 3-6 Athletics
Day.

It’s been a term filled with learning, discovery, and memorable
experiences for all our students.
From some of the 5C students themselves -
“I’m very appreciative for my teacher,” - Jaxson
“I really enjoyed going to Year 5 camp. My favourite activity was the
high ropes,” - Ashton
“We continue to grow our understanding in all subject areas,” - Layla
“One thing that stood out to me this term was the Athletics Day. This
year, we got to compete in long jump, and whole day was fun,” - Mia
On Friday 17th of May, Calliope State School Robotics students participated in the 2024 Gladstone Robotics Sumo Competition hosted by Boyne Island State School.
Six Calliope State School robotics teams participated and went very well, winning a huge stash of awards. Most Improved went to the Super Chickens and the Team Spirit award went to the Beep Bops. The Tornadoes won Robot Design and the Acknowledgement of Country award went to the White Sharks.
Total Points were calculated to decide the level of achievement for each team.
- Bronze- Super Chickens, The Warriors
- Silver- Beep Bops, White Sharks, Cowboys and Cowgirls
- Gold- The Tornadoes
Well done to all of the students who participated with their team and helped out on the way. A big thankyou to their parents for getting them to the competition and practice each morning.
Continuing students are now preparing for the more challenging Line Following Competition which will be held at Boyne Island State School on Friday 2nd August. We wish them well in their preparation and success on the day.
Mrs Fennell and Mrs Mastromonaco
We are focusing on student engagement in learning. Students will be brainstorming with their class about what is engagement and what does being a learner mean? In classes, they will also be discussing what helps them learn and ways that they enjoy learning. An activity at home could be to discuss with your child about what they could do to help them learn. As we come to the end of the semester an excellent idea is to celebrate what your child enjoyed in their learning over the past semester.
Gem Chat
Who is someone you connect with? Brainstorm with your child all of the different people that they connect with and why.
The Imperfects Podcast
A podcast about how perfectly imperfect we all are. Join Hugh, Ryan and Josh for their chats with a variety of interesting people and learn how we can apply some
valuable take-aways to our own imperfect lives. The Imperfects Podcast links with The Resilience Project. Dr Em once again brought some brilliant insights to The Imperfects as they discussed harmony in relationships, and how sometimes compromising our needs to keep the peace can lead to more issues.
This is just as relevant for the parent-child dynamic, and highlights the importance of mindfulness or taking time out to look after yourself first to be able to show up better for the kids.
Follow the link to watch it on The Resilience Project Website - https://theresilienceproject.com.au/at-home/parents-2023/
Take this moment to reflect on what personal needs or desires you have put on hold with the mindset “the kids come first”. As discussed in this video, putting your needs first can actually put you in a better position to then be there for your family without resentment.
Think of some tasks or activities that you’d like to do for you, and schedule them in your calendar as a non-negotiable 20 minutes or 1 hour for yourself.

Term 2 Whole School Celebration
The celebration will be on Thursday 20th June. A disco will be run by Laura Kale (Arts Teacher) in middle session and last session.
Congratulations to 4B who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 9. Their attendance rate was 94% for the week!
Also, congratulations to 4/5D who took out the overall attendance rate winner for Term 3, with 94.79%.
Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.

For the P&C to deliver on the big ticket items such as upgrades to playground equipment, providing resources for each class room, school food garden, recycling program, murals and the list can go on and on, we need the support from the parents by volunteering at fundraising events, providing input/feedback on what they would like to see or change at the school and attendance to meetings.
Any contribution to our P&C is appreciated no matter how big or small. While we all have different schedules and priorities, what we all have in common is; wanting to support our children’s education. The more hands we have, the more successful events are which in return will help keep costs to a minimum for families.
We are a small committee, made up of passionate parents. However, those passionate parents also have paid employment, families and other commitments as well but still manage to provide an hour or so to assist with making our school a better place for our children.
Our objective is to continue this great work and keep kicking goals in all areas of strategic planning, fundraising, school improvements and community engagement. We would genuinely love to hear from the school community with any thoughts or ideas you have on how we can all work together to keep making progress in these areas. You can contact us on communication.calliopess@gmail.com for our Communication Officer or pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au for our Executive team.
Bunnings Sausage Sizzle
It was a beautiful day on Sunday to have a sausage sizzle at Bunnings. We are very grateful for Lee and Michael's time and sausage cooking abilities. Without these two wonderful gentlemen, it would not have happened.

Volunteers and Classroom Support
Parents are encouraged to participate in the operation of the school through several channels.
- Attending P&C meetings
- Assisting in the Tuckshop or Uniform Shop
- Providing classroom assistance ie reading groups,
- Involvement in school activities and functions ie sports events, camps
All volunteers are required to attend a Mandatory All Staff Training program (MAST) – Parent Volunteer workshop before they are able to assist.
Completing your Volunteer mandatory training has got a lot easier. We are aware we all live busy lives and unable to commit to a particular day and time to complete the training onsite. You are now able to complete the training in the comfort of your own home and in your own time.
All you need to do is click on the link, read the key messages guide, complete the declaration and submit in person to the school office.
When you sign in as a volunteer on the Ipad, you are declaring you are aware of your obligations as per the key messages guide. This is valid for 12 months.
Have a Safe and Fun break, see you in Term 3.
Warm Regards
Geoff, Jason, Angela & Lisa
