Technology Investment
Technology plays an important role in our every day lives and at Calliope we recognise this. We are excited to be adding an additional 60 laptops to our classrooms to support the use of IT across classes and learning areas.
Attendance Matters
We continue to promote that every day is a learning day. Naturally, at the current time, if your child is displaying any signs of illness, please do not send them to school, but with just under two weeks of the term left, now is the time to make sure they are at school every day! Students will be finalising their units of work, so it is important that they are in attendance.
With early pick ups, please ensure that these only occur when essential.
Despite not being able to participate in traditional face to face competition style for the annual Gladstone Robotics competition, our Calliope student entry has been successful in being awarded- Best Response to Feedback, Most Improved! Well done to our students involved and the coaches for providing this opportunity to our students.
P&C Meeting
Please note the P&C meeting has been rescheduled to next Tuesday 15 September, 6pm. If you are attending, please email the P&C for record keeping purposes- pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au
School Swimming
Over the coming days, you will receive home permission notes for Term 4 swimming. Please complete these and return to your child’s teacher. Note that all swimmers are required to wear a swimming cap for pool lessons.
3C have had a fun Term 3!
Our English unit has been about examining stories from a different perspective. We have been busy writing a retell of The Lorax from a different perspective of another character in the text. This week our task is to prepare and present a spoken retell from the perspective of our chosen character to an audience using our vocal techniques of tone, pace, pause, pitch and volume including facial expression and body gesture. We have been having a lot of fun rehearsing and are now ready for presentation this week.
In Maths, we have been learning about Time, Money and Measurement. This week we are showing our knowledge in a challenge assignment of Leisure Land Fair.
Congratulations to 1A and 3A who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 8. Their attendance rate was 97% for the week! Also congratulations to the 10 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 8. Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
Weekly Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Week 9 is here and the holidays are not far away, but that does not mean we should be lax with teaching behaviour which is why the Positive Behaviour for Learning lesson this week is: Respectful – I Display Best Behaviour At All Times. We can display our best behaviour in a number of ways at school; these include:
- Being prompt for class with all our equipment and lining up quietly;
- Following teacher instructions straight away;
- Raising our hands to speak or ask permission to leave our seat;
- Being honest and trustworthy; and,
- Helping our fellow classmates by allowing them to learn.
Please take a moment to remind your child/children of the importance of displaying best behaviour at all times.
Just a reminder that Fantastic Fun Friday is on this week and that there are has been a change with the Prep-2 event. The lower school will now be engaging in a Spring Picnic at first break. This also allows the upper school students who do not wish to do the Student vs Teacher beep test the chance to go and join in on the grass at break time. For those keen to race, Years 3-6 will be in the hall at the same time facing off against the teachers.
Please remind your child/children to get their stamp charts in to be a part of the fun.
Enjoy your week.

Gladstone Robotics Competition 2020
Calliope State School’s Advanced Robotics Teams recently participated in a modified version of the Gladstone STEM Cluster Robotics Competition. Teams submitted video entries of their robots completing a simulated mission to transport bauxite from Rio Tinto mines in the Gulf of Carpentaria to Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) and Rio Tinto Yarwun in Gladstone. Teams had to design, construct and program an autonomous robot to navigate the shipping pathway as quickly as possible while avoiding obstacles in their way and manipulating and manoeuvring objects.
After submitting round one entries, teams received feedback from the judges and the opportunity to make improvements to their programming before submitting entries for round two. Six schools in the Gladstone Region participated, and the talented teams from Calliope were awarded two of the possible five awards!
Team RoboPros were awarded ‘Best Response to Feedback’ and Team RoboChamps were awarded ‘Most Improved’ from round one to round two. Team RoboJets showed great resilience and teamwork in solving problems with their programming each time.
Calliope State School extends a huge thank you to QAL and Rio Tinto for funding and co-designing the competition mats; Teacher coaches and student teams; the 2020 Judges from the Gladstone STEM Cluster; and Mr Rowe for his videography skills.
Wow, we are flying through Week 9 already. The next school holidays will be here in no time! We hope that all Dads had a spectacular day on Father’s Day. Thank you to all families who purchased from our stall last week.
Last week, schools celebrated Teacher Aides and this week we are celebrating School Support Staff. Thank you for everything you do. You have gone above and beyond this year and we appreciate you.

Orders are under student’s names. Your original order forms will be given back to you so that you can distribute to family and friends who ordered. We believe that this is the best arrangement for everyone and we would love to say a huge THANK YOU to Lizzie’s Bakery for making this possible.

Flexischools to QKR!
Calliope State School will now be using QKR to order tuckshop and uniforms. It is an alternative to Flexischools which is more user friendly for our families and our P&C.
QKR! is now live for our school! Families can download the App, register your details and order tuckshop and uniforms. More information will be posted to our Facebook Page from tonight. Flexischools can still be used until the holidays but from Term 4, everyone must use QKR! please. Our P&C team will be checking BOTH Flexischools and QKR for orders over the next 2 weeks.
Tuckshop & Uniform Shop
This term, Tuckshop will be open First and Second Breaks, Tuesday through to Friday. We are still cashless, due to COVID procedures, so make sure you place all Tuckshop and uniform orders on the Flexischools App OR QKR.
