SAFE AND RESPECTFUL SCHOOL COMMUNITIES
https://education.qld.gov.au/parents-and-carers/safe-and-respectful-school-communities
Your child, our student. One team.
We all deserve respectful, safe and non-violent environments, so aggression and harassment of any kind—physical, verbal or otherwise—isn't acceptable.
When you interact with school staff, remember we're all on the same team to support your child. We all have your child's best interests at heart, and the best way to achieve a positive learning experience is to work together.
Explore tips on communicating and collaborating with school staff to support your child and build a positive school culture in our resources section.
BE SAFE AND RESPECTFUL
Parent and Community Code of Conduct
Our teachers and school staff are vital in shaping the learning and development of future generations.
Despite the influential role our school staff play in our community, the number of incidents where staff experience unacceptable and abusive behaviour is on the increase.
Working with you -
We want to make sure we are all working together for your child, our student. To help do this a Parent and Community Code of Conduct has been developed
The Parent and Community Code of Conduct supports learning, wellbeing and safety in every Queensland state school We welcome parents and other members of our diverse community into schools across Queensland. Working together with their school community , school staff support the learning and wellbeing of every student, and are entitled to a safe work environment.
Parents and other visitors to school’s support safety by ensuring their communications and conduct at the school and school activities is respectful. The
Identifying abuse -
Abuse is a broad term. Offensive behaviour towards school staff can vary in form, frequency and severity, but all of it needs to be taken seriously. Sometimes, abuse and occupational violence take the shape of subtle aggression that doesn't feel like a big deal but still has a significant impact on school staff.
Every action you take has the potential to uplift or tear down, so consider your actions and their impact carefully.
Schools are safe workplaces -
Schools are workplaces, just like any other. We are all responsible for keeping our schools safe and respectful—a safe learning environment for your child, and a safe workplace for our staff. School staff can't give you and your child the support you need if they feel unsafe in their workplace.
SCHOOL OPINION SURVEY 2022
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in Term 3 and will close on 12 August 2022. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (Years 5 and 6) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family in the week beginning 11 July. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2022. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.
Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. School computers/tablets will be available.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Another term has come and gone. At the end of this week the June/July term holidays are upon us! I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and restful school holiday period. Please take time to enjoy the company of family and friends. I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday July 11.
Multi-age learning in Year 3/4 E
Grade 3/4E is a unique class with a combination of both Year 3 and 4 students working together in the one classroom. While this presents some organisational challenges, it also presents some interesting and unique learning opportunities for the students. For example, students take a lead role in supporting the learning of others, by tutoring them as they co-complete maths activity sheets. This has benefits for all students; such as working together and taking on responsibility to help guide the learning of others, as well as students needing to clarify their own thinking, determine a way to explain their ideas clearly to others, and self-check to ensure that the answers and ideas they are sharing are correct (this in turn is checked and supported by the teacher). This team learning approach helps to keep the students on track and focused on their learning while consolidating and reinforcing their conceptual learning.

Welcome to Week 10!
This week’s PBL focus is: Being a good role model
During the lesson this week, we will investigate what it means to be a good role model and the type of characteristics that would be seen in one. Students will discuss how to be a good role model and discuss people in their lives that have had a positive impact on them.
Congratulations to all students of Calliope State School! You have all worked together to achieve our 20 whole class stamp chart goal! Everyone will get to celebrate together Wednesday afternoon with our CSS PBL Celebration Colour Run. The starting time of the colour run has now changed to 2:20pm, to allow for students to get ready and transition down to the front oval. Please make sure students have closed in shoes to wear and old clothes/white shirt. Students will also need a hat to be sun safe. A towel will also be a must, as we will have the Rural Fire Brigade taking part in our colour run with the fire truck.
Congratulations to 3D who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 9. Their attendance rate was 95.45% for the Week!
Also, congratulations to the 2 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 9.
Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.

Tuckshop News
Keep your eyes peeled for some delicious new winter warmers added to our menu. Our fabulous tuckshop convener, Miss Lisa, is always working hard and creating some delicious soups and lucky dips along with all the amazing tastebud delights on our weekly menu. Be sure to get onto QKR and get your orders in. Miss Lisa can always use an extra set of hands or two each tuckshop day to make sure your kids get their food as quickly as possible at break times. If you’d like to lend a hand, please contact Miss Lisa via our Facebook page or pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au
Parents are reminded that ice creams and ice blocks need to be collected from tuckshop by the students with their paper bag.
Taste Buds Fundraiser
Taste buds is a variety of yummy spice blends, savoury salts & rubs and versatile mixes and the best part is you can order online and they are delivered straight to your door. QKR
Last week we had some issues with QKR when ordering tuckshop which have now been resolved. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we resolved the problems. Unfortunately, things like this do arise and are completely out of our control. In the future, if possible, please try to order ahead of time to ease congestion in the mornings.
Uniform Shop
Uniform shop orders on QKR can take up to 3 business days to fill after day of order. These items are then taken to the office and the students are contacted to collect. If you haven’t received your uniform order, please check if it has been 3 days, that it’s not in your child’s school bag (we all have that one child!) and that it’s not in the classroom. Please remember if you have any concerns, please contact us via our Facebook page or email: uniformshop.calliopess@gmail.com as the admin staff will more than likely not be able to advise you.
Volunteer Reminder
I would like to take this moment to remind everyone that we are volunteers, we are parents, we are employed by other organisations or companies and that unfortunately, although it would be amazing, we do not have endless hours in the day. Please when contacting us be patient, be polite and be kind. We know it may be frustrating not getting a response straight away however please understand you are not being ignored, we just may be busy and will get to it as soon as possible. If you would like to help lighten the load and volunteer, please reach out we would love to have you on board.
Please don’t hesitate to stop us and say hi and ask questions.

Port to Park FunD Run
The Port to Park fun run is back for 2022! Gladstone Ports Corporation’s (GPC) Port to Park FunD Run can help us raise funds for our school community and we’d love as many of our students and families to participate on Sunday 21 August.

Students can register to participate in Port to Park as individuals or with their family for the 3km and/or 9km events and their registration fee will be directed back to our school. Make sure you nominate Calliope State School as your school when registering!
