Multi-age learning in Year 3/4 E

Grade 3/4E is a unique class with a combination of both Year 3 and 4 students working together in the one classroom. While this presents some organisational challenges, it also presents some interesting and unique learning opportunities for the students. For example, students take a lead role in supporting the learning of others, by tutoring them as they co-complete maths activity sheets. This has benefits for all students; such as working together and taking on responsibility to help guide the learning of others, as well as students needing to clarify their own thinking, determine a way to explain their ideas clearly to others, and self-check to ensure that the answers and ideas they are sharing are correct (this in turn is checked and supported by the teacher).This team learning approach helps to keep the students on track and focused on their learning while consolidating and reinforcing their conceptual learning.
