WELCOME BACK!
Our staff are all very excited to have all our students back with us. Yesterday was a huge success with all adapting to our new processes. It was great to see all our students excited to see their teachers and their friends again.

Just a reminder for our parents to practise social distancing of 1.5m, particularly around our gates. Please move off as soon as you have collected your child. We thank-you for understanding that parents are not entering our school grounds. Should you need to speak with us for any reason, please either call or use the service window located at the office.
Reporting
In line with the modified schooling for this term, we share the following information about assessment and reporting. Be assured that students will only be assessed on units of work that they have been taught and completed at school.
This semester students will be assessed on the following subject areas:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Health and Physical Education
- Music
Students in Years 1-6 will receive a level of achievement grade and commentary to match what they have learnt in the semester and a future focus. Prep students will only receive commentary on their learning.
No behaviour or effort marks will be included.
Teachers will be using results from Term 1 and short units of study in the above subject areas when students return to school.
Reports will be sent home, in early Term 3 via email, with parent-teacher interviews offered after these.
Feedback
We are always open to feedback as this helps our school to continuously grow and improve. There are many appropriate ways to provide feedback to our school and we appreciate the time and effort people have taken to ensure they are using these avenues. At the moment we have modified some of our avenues for providing feedback. The most effective way in this present situation is to email our admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au email address or via a phone call.
Kindest Regards

What's Happening in our Classroom...
6Brilliant is extremely excited to be back at school! They are to be congratulated on their persistence and resilience during online learning time. We have started quickly, even though the temperature is freezing, with creating advertisements for our annual advertising awards, which will be held this Friday. Maths has made our brains fire up with learning BOMDAS (Order of Operations). We have charged into science learning about electrical circuits. Smashton and 6B are so exhilarated to be back at school again. Our classroom is still the happiest and brightest place to be!

Weekly Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Welcome back everyone. It’s great to see the school back at full capacity and to ensure we can keep that going we need to continue social distancing and maintaining
our current hygiene practices. To do just that, we are going to practise the PBL lesson of ‘Safe – Catch it, Bin it, Kill it.’
- Catch it: make sure that we sneeze into a tissue;
- Bin it: once done, place the tissue into the nearest bin;
- Kill it: wash our hands, ensuring that we have not spread germs to the best of our ability.
Please take a few minutes to go over this with your child/children.
The PBL team will be meeting next Monday at 3.30pm. Unfortunately we can't have parents at the moment, but feel free to email anything you would like to discuss to admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au.
Also, please check out Calliope News on Facebook this week and be sure to like and share it.
Thanks.

Attendance has only been calculated for Prep and Year 1 classes, as they are the first year levels to start back at school.
Congratulations to Prep A, who had a great attendance rate for Week 5. Their attendance rate was 98% for the week! Also, congratulations to the six Prep and Year 1 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 5.
With the Years 2-6 starting this week it is great to see so many more smiling faces back learning at school! Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
2020 Premier's Reading Challenge!
All students at Calliope State School are once again participating in The Premier’s Reading Challenge. The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual statewide initiative for Queensland schools. The Premier's Reading Challenge aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning.
To participate, students need to read books and record the titles on a record sheet, which is being kept at school. Students can record all books that are read at school. Teachers will assist students in filling out their record sheet.
Once a student’s record sheet is filled, their name will be entered into a lucky draw. Once a week, starting in Week 6 for Prep and Year 1 and Week 7 for Years 2- 6, a random draw will be held and the lucky students will win a book.
Reading is such an amazing way to expose children to new vocabulary and having them form opinions about topics. Please try to read to/with your child every day.
Welcome Back!
How good is it to see the whole of Calliope State School back together at last? Welcome back to Years 2-6! Thanks again to the staff for making the transition back to school as smooth as possible and for your support throughout the learning from home period. Bring on the rest of Term 2!
