Equityand Excellence
In Term 2, our school will be participating in the 2024 Australian Early Development Census (AEDC). The data collection is open from 1 May to 21 June.
With data collections occurring triennially since 2009, we are proud of our collective efforts in consistently achieving 100% state school participation in every data collection to date.
There is an increased focus on the quality of data in the upcoming 2024 collection, given the importance of AEDC data to whole-of-government strategic targets.
This is a critical time for our Prep teachers and we will work together as a school community to provide the support they need to participate in this important data collection.
Our End of Term parade will be held on Friday 22 March. Our Term 1 ACE Awards will be announced, our annual Easter Hat parade will be conducted and the P&C Easter Raffle will be drawn. Parents and family members are welcome to wear their Easter Hats at the parade as well. All are welcome to attend.
Parents are welcome to visit classrooms after parade and families are welcome to have a picnic with their children at first break on the grass area between the hall and Administration building.
SCHOOL CROSSING SUPERVISOR TIME CHANGE

On Thursday 21 March, we will be acknowledging Harmony Day. This day is a time to embrace our diversity and foster inclusiveness. Staff and students are invited to wear orange on Thursday 21 March to recognise this special day.
In our combined English/HASS unit, we have been exploring and inquiring into the Federation of Australia.
Students have been investigating and creating a multimodal text about a famous Australian who played an important role in Australia’s Federation.
Our day out to see The Little Mermaid was also an enjoyable day. Whereby we were able to witness one of our 6B team, April give a wonderful performance. I must say that I was extremely proud of the manner in which 6B demonstrated how to be safe, responsible and respectful while out in public. “6B you guys’ rock!”
Congratulations to 4/5D who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 7. Their attendance rate was 99.18% for the week!
Also, congratulations to the 9 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 7.
Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS WITH MRS BETTS
A huge congratulations to our wake-boarding champ Mia! She travelled to Melbourne over the weekend and won both the events she competed in. The first was a kicker competition where she had 3 attempts of hitting the kicker and performing tricks. She landed all 3 of her (straight air tail grab, 360 & front flip) winning by 27 points. The second was a features event where she has to hit all the obstacles on the park and perform her best and cleanest hit in each section in the park. She won 5 out of 6 sections and won by 16 points.

Our U10s Calliope Rugby League team had a lot of fun at the PJ Marsh Carnival last Friday. We played 6 games and came fifth out of the 12 teams in the competition. It was a fun day of footy! Mrs Betts and Coach Jok were very proud of their amazing effort and sportsmanship throughout the day. Congratulations to Kai for getting the ‘Player of the Carnival’ for Calliope, and being selected in the Port Curtis U10 Rugby League team!
A big thank you to Jok for coaching the side and Vanessa for being our FAO on the day!
Cross Country- Monday Week 10
Just a reminder Cross Country is coming up in Week 10. Mrs Betts is holding Running Club on the back oval on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (8:30am) in preparation for this. On the day, there will be age champion medals for 9,10,11 and 12-year old students. Students that are 10,11 or 12-year-old who place in the top five with a suitable time will get the opportunity to compete at the Port Curtis Cross Country Trials on Wednesday 8th May 2024 (Term 2, Week 4) at Benaraby State School. For Port Curtis trials, all runners must be able to complete their distance without walking.
We are looking for volunteers to man checkpoints on the day. If you have completed the school’s mandatory training and would like to volunteer your time please email Cathy Betts (cbett49@eq.edu.au).
Hi everyone! This Saturday 16th March, the local Government elections are being held. Our school hall is a polling place and we will be running a sausage sizzle as a fundraiser. Be sure to stop by and see us for a snag in bread and a cold drink! We would love some extra hands to help out if you would have an hour free on the day? If so, please reach out on our contact information below. We are also very excited that the QCWA Calliope branch will be joining us with a treats and jams stall! See you at the polls!
Have you heard about our Easter raffle? There are multiple Easter egg hampers to be won and it will be drawn at the end of term Easter hat parade on Friday March 22nd. Your continued support towards our fundraising efforts is very much appreciated and helps us continue to contribute to costs that we commit to each year. For example the transport costs for camps and excursions. We would be so grateful if each family could donate one (or more if you fancy) Easter egg again this year. Please place your donation in our Easter egg raffle box located in the school office by end of day Wednesday March 20th. Thanks in advance for your generosity! Raffle tickets are now available to be purchased on QKR, available before school from Yr 5&6 students and also at the office.
Our AGM will be held next Tuesday March 19th at 5pm in the Admin building. Being a P&C member is a great way to keep informed with what is happening around our school and decisions being made for our school and students. Becoming a member doesn’t require you to make a commitment but means you’ll receive the minutes from our meetings in your inbox and you’re in control how involved you want to be. Membership forms for 2024 are available at the office and we strongly encourage you to consider joining us this year. You don’t need to be present at the AGM to have your membership and/or nomination forms accepted. So, to get involved, please collect a form from the office and pop it into the P&C lock box located in the office also.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the team on communication.calliopess@gmail.com for our Communication Officer or pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au for our Executive team.
Warm regards,
Heidi, Geoff, Angela and Lisa.
Whilst in class, teachers are not available to come to the phone. If you need to make contact with your children throughout the day, please do this via the office. These should be in an emergency situation only. Messages received after 1.45pm may not get acknowledged by the class in time, so please ensure your children know their pick up arrangements.

Greater transparency of information
- Improves accountability between parents and schools by providing parents with timely access to their child's information online.
- Allows parents to engage more deeply in their child's schooling.
Improved administration efficiencies for schools
- Allows schools to streamline their administrative processes and cut down on printing.
What do you need to do to get started?
The office will be send out emails inviting parents or guardians to become a QParents Account Owner (QPAO) for their student at the beginning of their enrolment at the school. QPAOs will be able to register for QParents to access and manage the student's information online, view the student's information and submit requests to update some of the student's details.
QPAOs will also be able to invite other people (such as another family member), to view the student's information. Once invited, these people can register for QParents as “delegated viewers". A delegated viewer can see the student's details, but cannot make updates.
When you receive your invitation email, simply follow the instructions to register your QParents account. The process should take less than 10 minutes to complete. Initial registration and addition of students to your account must be done on a desktop or laptop computer. Once registered, you will then be able to access QParents using your mobile device (via web browser or by downloading the iPhone or Android App).
Invitations sent by email will only ever come from no.reply@qparents.qld.edu.au. You will not be invited to register from any other email address or organisation.
If you do no not want to register you can just ignore the invitation and your child's student information will not be available to anyone through QParents.
Identity Verification
To obtain full access to student information, as part of their QParents registration users must complete an identity verification process. QParents offers two options for identity verification – online and offline.
For fully online verification (the fastest option), you will need to verify 100 points of the following identity documents online:
Australian Passport | 50 pts | Australian Marriage Certificate | 40 pts |
Australian Driver Licence | 50 pts | Australian Citizenship Certificate | 40 pts |
Australian Birth Certificate | 50 pts | Change of Name Certificate | 40 pts |
Medicare Card | 20 pts | Australian Visa (foreign passports) | 20 pts |
If you cannot verify 100 points of the above ID documents online, you may still register for QParents, but you will need to attend the school to verify documentation in person after you have registered online.
Full instructions on how to verify your documents and what you may need to bring to the school will be provided as part of the invitation and registration process.
If you don't have sufficient documents, or are unsure, you may still be able to register. For more information on the online identity verification process, see https://qparents.qld.edu.au/#/identityInformation .
Please note that QParents does not maintain copies or records of any identity documents used for account verification, either online or offline.
EQ ID
You will also need to have your child's EQ ID (their Education Queensland identification number) in order to complete your QParents registration. You can access this via the school office.
Safe and secure
QParents is a secure portal that meets strict industry standards. The Department of Education and Training considers student information to be confidential (it is classified as PROTECTED by the Department). Only people with the right to access information about their child will be given an account. Additionally, as part of the registration process, 100 points of identity or equivalent will need to be presented to prove that the person who is registering is the person the school invited.
