Road Safety Week
22-26 of August is Road Safety Week. In partnership with the Queensland Police Service, the Year 6 Leaders organised a range of activities to promote road safety in our community. The footpath art was a big success with each class creating chalk art to send road safety messages. Our P-2 students also participated in activities on the oval to learn about roads. Throughout the week, there will also be a colouring in competition.
Lunch Boxes
We would like to thank all the parents who have been in touch with us to raise their concerns about lunch boxes. We have been following this up in a number of ways. We have asked our Positive Behaviour for Learning staff to review our lunchbox procedures – this will take place at their next meeting. Each class affected is reteaching our lunchbox expectations with their classes. We have also increased the leadership presence in the “hot spots” for where the issues are occurring. In addition, we are following up through our Student Code of Conduct where appropriate with individual students. To support further, we ask that all parents please have conversations with their children about ensuring their lunchboxes are safely placed in the provided lunch tubs at the end of each eating time so that duty staff can keep a closer eye on them.

Student Free Day
Families are reminded that Friday September 2, is a Student Free Day.
Book Week
Last Friday we held our annual Dress Up day for Book Week. There were so many wonderful book characters brought to life. The staff performance this year was ‘No Way Yirrikpayi’ with plenty of fun on the stage.

Book Week has arrived! Every book lovers’ favourite time of year is upon us and Calliope State School started book week with a bang at our annual dress up parade last Friday. The students looked amazing as did the many staff who joined in the fun. Our teachers showed off their performance skills (or lack of?!) in the presentation of the book No Way Yirrikipayi!
Celebrations continue this week with our book fair in the library. We are open before school 8.30- 9am, first break and we will be open during the 150th Fair on Saturday.

Thanks to everyone for your support!

Welcome to Week 7! This weeks focus is ‘Playing Safely- Rocks & Sticks’. It’s extremely important that both our students and staff are safe while attending school. This weeks lesson looks at how to play safely, particularly with rocks and sticks. The lesson clearly outlines with a and a
what is clearly safe and unsafe behaviour. Below are two students that were role playing with gems and were pretending to buy and sell from each other.

This is an example of safe play with rocks. Digging in the gully with a small stick with small movements in the dirt is another example of safe play. Using sticks and rocks to hurt others- hitting or throwing them is very unsafe.
