This semester Rotakids made hygiene kits to send to children in the community of Kalkaringi, 480km southwest of Katherine. These kits consisted of individualised bags filled with hygiene products. Rotakids packed around 80 kits to help prevent Trachoma and other infections. We also had a visit from the District Governor Martti and his wife Karen. They discussed with Rotakids how one of their fundraisers at this point in time is raising funds for students in Manatuto to gain access to clean water and bathrooms.
In term 4, starting week 8, Rotakids will also be running a uniform drive. Items we will be collecting are sports uniforms, hats, and the current day to day school uniform. More information about drop off places to come.
REMEMBRANCE DAY 2021
The 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front and is universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war. On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, when the guns fell silent, we will remember them.
Our school leaders did the school proud at the Calliope RSL Remembrance Day commemorative service last week.

CALLIOPE CHRISTMAS CAROLS 2021 – DATE CLAIMER
The Calliope Carols are back on this year, after a break due to COVID restrictions. They will be held on Friday November 26 (Week 8). As in previous years, each year level is learning a song, which they will perform on stage as part of the concert.
It has been noted that the date also coincides with the return of the Year 6 students from their camp. We understand that this will be the end of a big week for these students but we hope that as many as possible will still attend the carols event and perform, as this will be their last carols event before they go to high school.
We hope to see everyone there!

If successful, their application will be returned to you so that they can use this to put their speech together. Taking care of our Mental Health! - As a parent or carer, you can encourage your kids to write down all those thoughts that are racing through their minds. Our world is such a busy place and with all the new digital technologies available to us we can sometimes forget to take care of our mental health. But just like we need to empty our rubbish bins we also need to detox our mind. When we have a clearer mind, it helps us to concentrate on the things that are important, like concentrating in the classroom. Remember don’t overload your mind! One way I love to detox my mind is by writing it all down on a Microsoft word document and deleting it, then my mind is a lot clearer to concentrate on what is important.
Our Seasons for Growth program has been teaching kids that change is inevitable and just like the seasons (autumn, winter, spring and summer) the world continues to change around us whether we want it to or not. The students are beginning to learn to accept the changes in their lives and realise that they are not alone. Many students experience significant change and loss in their lives and this is helping them to build a peer support group around them. This week we will begin to learn how we can adjust to those changes.
Have a great week!!

Online program to help families of children with eczema
Every day, thousands of Australian children suffer the effects of eczema, and families struggle with managing eczema and children’s behavioural and emotional adjustment.
Healthy Living Triple P is an adaptation of the successful Triple P - Positive Parenting Program, offering practical ideas and support for parents of children
with eczema. This innovative online program is designed to help parents manage their child’s eczema more easily, help children cope with their eczema and emotions, prevent and manage difficult child behaviour, and reduce the impact of eczema on families.
Over the next few months, parents of 2-10 year old children with eczema are able to access Healthy Living Triple P free of charge as part of a research project through the Queensland Children’s Hospital, Griffith University, and the University of Queensland. For more information, please visit us at https://exp.psy.uq.edu.au/eczema/, contact Dr Amy Mitchell on (07) 3735 6462, or email healthyliving@uq.edu.au.
