ANZAC DAY SERVICES 2021
On Friday, our student leaders led a very successful, moving ANZAC ceremony here at school. Overall, there was a high degree of respect shown by all students throughout the ceremony and as their parents/carers, you should all be very proud.
I want to extend an overall thank you to parents and carers who supported the students to attend the ANZAC Day services that were held in the local area on Sunday morning. We had 13 students attend the Dawn Service in Gladstone and 62 students at the Calliope Parade. Again, the students marching on behalf of the school were very respectful and represented the school proudly. A special thank you goes to Ms Norris and Ms Hargreaves for supporting the students at the Dawn Service in Gladstone and Mrs Foster and Mrs Maycock for supporting the students at the Calliope Parade.
A huge thank you needs to be extended to Ms Norris who, in the background, put a large amount of time and effort into preparing the school ceremony on Friday morning and preparing the leaders and other members of the school community for participation in the ANZAC Day services within the community. Her tireless effort did not go unnoticed and it is very much appreciated. On behalf of the Calliope State School community, thank you!
Thank you to Ms Marshall for the very engaging speech at our school ceremony in Friday and bringing to life, in a respectful way, the reality of what war means for some children and nations and how thankful we should all be about the country we live in. As the grandchild of a veteran who returned from World War II, you were correct in saying that the effects of war impact people right through the generations, including children the, grandchildren, great grandchildren. This was a message that was shared at the local ANZAC services and services across the Nation. On behalf of the community, I would like to thank Ms Marshall for supporting and representing not only the RSL as the president but also the school at the Gladstone Dawn Service and our local ANZAC service on Sunday in Calliope also.
Another special thank you needs to go to Mr Kerr for the work he did organising the Choir to sing at the ANZAC services both at school and the local Calliope Parade on Sunday. The students sang beautifully. It was a touching tribute.
YEAR 6 CAMP
Year 6 Camp notes were sent home in Week 1 of this term (last week). We are a cashless school so therefore deposits are to be made via QKR or BPoint or EFTPOS in the office. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the class teacher.
NAPLAN
This year, our students will participate in NAPLAN Online. NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing learning progress. At the classroom level it is one of a number of important tools used by teachers to measure student progress. You will receive a Parent Information Pack. Make time to read these documents. If you wish to do some further reading, the following link is to the Public Demonstration Site https://nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site.
Calliope State School’s NAPLAN test window will be across Week 4 and Week 5, Term 2, 2021. Please ensure your child has working headphones, lead pencil and eraser (for working out). If you have any questions or concerns kindly contact your child’s class teacher.
PUBLIC HOLIDAY
Just to communicate with parents/carers, the next Monday public holiday is the May Day Holiday on Monday 3rd May.
