5D have had a fun year together and I think we are beginning to realise that our time together is nearly reaching the end. The students have collaborated in small groups to create a stop motion animation using light and shadow to communicate mood and point of view for an audience.
They are beginning to understand that solids, liquids and gases have some shared and some distinct observable properties and can behave in different ways. Now, they have to pose questions, make predictions and plan investigation methods in the study of evaporation. I just can’t wait to see what they come up with.
Summary points: - We have completed our four year review with the Education Improvement Branch - Respecting our Neighbours - COVID Guidelines - What an amazing NAIDOC Week - STOP, DROP, GO thank you! - Feedback Welcome |
Review Update
Thanks to all our parents who engaged in our review process. Our reviewers enjoyed their time at our school and we value the feedback our parents were able to give as we move towards the next steps in our improvement agenda. We are very proud of our accomplishments over the last four years. Our report will be available on our website over the coming weeks.
Respecting our Neighbours
Our designated entry and exit points to the school are all at the front of the school. By using these entries and exits, we can ensure the safety of all students as they enter and leave the school. We ask that all our families reinforce this with their children and respect our neighbours by not entering their properties.
NAIDOC Week
This year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations were outstanding at Calliope State School. Our staff pulled together to plan some highly memorable and engaging activities. Thanks must particularly go to Miss Tuttle, Miss Lewis and Mrs Ind. They had a great team of helpers behind them as well. I know our students loved each and every activity.
COVID Guidelines for Schools
Our guidelines are constantly being reviewed in line with State directives and the COVID Guidelines for Schools. There is a “Frequently asked questions for parents” page that you are welcome to access here: https://qed.qld.gov.au/about-us/news-and-media/novel-coronavirus/frequently-asked-questions-for-parents
“As the Queensland Government eases restrictions around the COVID-19 pandemic, state schools will continue to adhere to physical distancing and enhanced hygiene measures in order to provide COVID-Safe facilities and protect the health, safety and wellbeing of students, staff and the wider school community.”
STOP, DROP, GO
Thank you to all our parents who access our Stop, Drop, Go area. The way in which you have all supported our staff to support you to move out of the space as efficiently and safely as possible has been amazing. We are making some changes to the student waiting area to improve this even more. Our advice is to arrive after 3:15 so you are in the flow of traffic. It is a 2 minute only zone, so if you arrive before hand, feel free to park in one of the available parking spaces. Please be aware that there is a yellow line painted on the Administration building side of the entry road, which means “No Parking”. This applies at all times of day, including before and after school.
Feedback Welcome
Calliope State School is committed to ensuring that ‘everyone at Calliope State School is working together to ensure that every day, in every classroom, every student is learning and achieving’. We want to know from our parents, carers and students, what we are doing well, and if there are any areas we can improve on or do differently. You can give feedback at any time to a staff member, coming into the school office, or leaving a message in our Suggestion Box (in the office foyer). Please be respectful when providing feedback.
If you have a complaint we ask that you:
1) Arrange a time to speak with the class teacher as the first point of call.
2) If your concern is regarding the classroom teacher or a staff member, contact the office to speak with a Deputy Principal responsible for your child’s sector.
· Miss Raelene Norris is the P-2 Deputy
· Mrs Naomi Hughes is the 3-6 A/Deputy
· Mrs Rebecca Crapp is the A/Principal.
We ask that you refrain from using social media platforms to comment about issues or incidents involving our school. We have a great school with great students and staff and together we can continue to promote our school as a fantastic learning venue in our community. By following the above process we can work together to ensure any concerns you have are addressed in a proactive and solution focused way.
Kindest Regards,
Rebecca Crapp
Acting Principal
Congratulations to 1C, 2C, 3B and 4C who had a great attendance rate for Week 6. Their attendance rate was 96% for the week! Also congratulations to the 10 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 6. Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)!
Week 7 is upon us and the PBL lesson this week is on: Respectful – Following Adult Instructions Straight Away. There are a number of reasons we teach students to follow adult instructions first time and these include:
- ensuring that students stay safe;
- maximising learning time;
- reducing potential issues by separating students pre-emptively;
- teaching respect and better manners; and,
- raising students to function within the work environment.
Please spend a few minutes reinforcing the importance of following adult instructions straight away with your child/ren.
Don’t forget to remind your child/ren know about all the cool Active & Engaged activities on a break time. Whether they want to play netball, chill out colouring in and watching a movie, or learn to dance, there is something for everyone. Here are the events:
Fantastic Fun Friday is on a Week 8 and it will be a whole school event at first break – the Crazy Calliope Course. We will be on the back oval and there will be a giant course for kids to run and ball games happening as well. Be sure to let your child/children know to be part of the fun by getting their Stamp Chart in.
Thanks.

Student Welfare Teacher
We are excited to announce that with the easing of restrictions we are able to hold our annual Swimming Carnivals. These carnivals are scheduled for Week 8. Please see below, the timetable for Week 8. Prep to Year 3 will participate in their own cohort mini swimming carnivals and Years 4 to Year 6 will participate in a combined event. Due to COVID restrictions and the protocols of the Department of Education, only students and staff members will be attending the swimming carnivals. Under the current guidelines, our pool area is physically too small to accommodate students, staff and parents at this event. Students are to wear swimming caps and appropriate swimming attire with a sun shirt. Students are allowed to swim without a sun shirt for their races; however, must wear a shirt at all times out of the pool.
Calliope State School RotaKids are holding a Uniform Drive for the month of November. We would appreciate families donating uniforms that are in good condition and no longer required. The collection buckets are outside of the school office and at the entrance near the Prep buildings. Over the school holidays the donated uniforms will be washed and ready for families in 2021.
