Year 5 & 6 Camp Updates
It has been brought to our attention that there is some misunderstanding around our Year 5 & 6 day camps. As previously advised, there will be no overnight camps. Instead our teachers have been working hard to create localised day activities. The cost of the camps, will NOT exceed the deposits that have already been paid (Year 5- $50, Year 6- $100). If your child was not going on camp and you would now like them to participate, please contact the school office as a priority.
Communication Point of Truth
Can we encourage parents that if you have an enquiry about the school or our activities that you contact the school office or email admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au . Our administration team will be able to ensure your enquiry is directed to a staff member who can help you, so that information you are given, is correct. We encourage you to use caution when taking information from other means including Facebook pages/chats, which are not school managed.
Free cyberbullying training for parents and carers
Parentline
According to research by the eSafety Commissioner, 1 in 5 young people experience
cyberbullying and online abuse, and 55% seek help from their parents/carers.
Funded by the Queensland Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women, Parentline cyberbullying support training has been designed for use by adults who care for older children and teens at risk of, or already experiencing cyberbullying.
The training program is specifically designed to be a pocket-ready resource which can be easily accessed via any smart phone or tablet, to be helpful to parents, carers and grandparents who are:
- nervous or fearful of using the internet or new devices;
- anxious about their young ones using the internet;
- concerned cyberbullying may be impacting their child;
- concerned their child may be engaging in cyberbullying behaviours;
- would like to learn how to identify when cyberbullying may be impacting their family unit; and
- would like supportive, practical information around starting uncomfortable conversations.
The free cyberbullying training and eResources for parents and carers, be accessed from the Parentline website.

Pupil Free Day
This Friday 4th of September is a Student Free Day. The school will not be open on this day.
Early Departures
We would like to remind families that signing students out early should be the exception rather than the norm and that a valid reason needs to be provided. Our office staff are being overwhelmed with a massive increase in the number of early sign outs. We understand that this is sometimes unavoidable. Please consider if an early sign out is essential.
School Gates
We would like to remind parents and students to arrive as close to the start of the school day as possible. The first bell rings at 9:00am with formal learning beginning at 9:10am. Students will remain seated in the Undercroft until 8:30am. Students will only be allowed to access the oval from 8:30am. The Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 gate will open at this time also (8:30am). If the gate is closed and no adult is present, entry must be via the main office entry. Please leave the gates closed. A staff member will open them. The gates close at 9:10am. At this time our staff move to classes to support students in their learning. All students arriving after this time are required to sign in through the office.
Feedback
We are always open to feedback as this helps our school to continuously grow and improve. There are many appropriate ways to provide feedback to our school and we appreciate the time and effort people have taken to ensure they are using these avenues. At the moment we have modified some of our avenues for providing feedback. The most effective way in this present situation is to email our admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au email address or via a phone call.
Kindest Regards,

Deputy Principal
We have had such a busy Term 3, learning so much every day!
Prep C students have been doing fantastic writing and reading. We have been working on chopping and blending sounds to write and read words, as well as learning our Magic Words.
We have also been working on Part-Part-Whole Addition and even writing our own sums! Check out this amazing work!
In Science, we have been experimenting with how objects and toys move, testing if they roll, slide, or bounce.
This week we are presenting our rhyming sentences. We are working on using loud, clear voices and eye contact to engage our audience.
Amazing learning Prep C!

Congratulations to 5A and 5D who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 7. Their attendance rate was 98% for the week! Also congratulations to the 16 classes who were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 7. Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
Weekly Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Welcome to Week 8. The Positive Behaviour for Learning lesson for week 6 is: Respectful – Following Teacher Instructions Straight Away. Students need to understand that there is always a reason why a teacher gives them an instruction.
These include:
- They see a potential issue with a student in line so they instruct them to move before something happens;
- They are considering the learning of the rest of the class;
- They understand the importance of getting their work done with upcoming assessment; and
- They want the best for them and are helping them make good choices.
These are just some of the reasons why students need to follow teacher instructions straight away. Please take a moment to remind your child/children of the importance of following teacher instructions straight away.
Fantastic Fun Friday is on again in Week 9 and there are has been a change with the Prep-2 event. The lower school will now be engaging in a Spring Picnic at first break. This also allows the upper school students who do not wish to do the Student vs Teacher beep test the chance to go and join in on the grass at break time. For those keen to race, Years 3-6 will be in the hall at the same time facing off against the teachers.
Please remind your child/children to get their stamp charts in to be a part of the fun.
Have a good week.
Thanks.

Calliope State School has successfully walked around Australia during Active August. We walked, ran or jogged just over 17 000km during the month. Congratulations to all the classes who participated and to 6C for having the highest amount of kilometres over the month. Well done everyone and thank you to the Gladstone Ports Corporation for their donation.
Father’s Day is this Sunday.
On behalf of the families from Calliope State School, we would like to wish all Dads, Grandfathers and special people a big Happy Father’s Day.
We have had a lot of interest in our Father’s Day Stall plans this year. We have planned alternative arrangements due to COVID-19 procedures. Last week an order form was sent home with students. Thank you to the families who have used this form to pre order your Father’s Day Gift Packs. These packs will be distributed to students on Thursday. If your form didn’t quite make it home, don’t worry, we will have a stall set up at school this Thursday (3rd of September.) Please send your child to school with cash in a named, Ziplock bag and everyone that hasn’t already ordered a gift, will have the opportunity to purchase then.
If you have any questions, please contact us at pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au or via the P&C Facebook page.
These arrangements have been made in collaboration with the Admin team at school. Thank you for helping us provide a Father’s Day Stall for our Calliope families.
DESIGN YOUR OWN OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
If you would still like to enter our competition, the flyer is still attached. Please email your designs to the email address or message the Facebook Page ASAP. We will be choosing the winner very soon, We don’t want anyone to miss out.

Below there is a reminder of the pie and lamington delivery days for our families.
Please note that the pickup location has not been confirmed yet.
Delivery Days
Prep – Year 2: Wednesday 9th of September
Year 3 – Year 6: Wednesday 16th of September
For families with children in different year levels, your delivery date will be determined by your eldest child’s year level.
Tuckshop & Uniform Shop
This term, Tuckshop will be open First and Second Breaks, Tuesday through to Friday. We are still cashless, due to COVID procedures, so make sure you place all Tuckshop and uniform orders on the Flexischools App. Contact us via Facebook or via pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au for any queries regarding uniforms or tuckshop. We are always happy to help.
Flexischools
We have found an alternative to Flexischools which is more user friendly for our families and our P&C. We are in the process of changing to QKR but for now, Flexischools is still in use and this is the best way to order your tuckshop and uniforms. We will keep you updated as the transition begins in the coming weeks.
