Year 5 & 6 Camp Updates

It has been brought to our attention that there is some misunderstanding around our Year 5 & 6 day camps. As previously advised, there will be no overnight camps. Instead our teachers have been working hard to create localised day activities. The cost of the camps, will NOT exceed the deposits that have already been paid (Year 5- $50, Year 6- $100). If your child was not going on camp and you would now like them to participate, please contact the school office as a priority.

Communication Point of Truth

Can we encourage parents that if you have an enquiry about the school or our activities that you contact the school office or email admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au . Our administration team will be able to ensure your enquiry is directed to a staff member who can help you, so that information you are given, is correct. We encourage you to use caution when taking information from other means including Facebook pages/chats, which are not school managed.

cyberbullying and online abuse, and 55% seek help from their parents/carers.

Funded by the Queensland Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women, Parentline cyberbullying support training has been designed for use by adults who care for older children and teens at risk of, or already experiencing cyberbullying.

The training program is specifically designed to be a pocket-ready resource which can be easily accessed via any smart phone or tablet, to be helpful to parents, carers and grandparents who are:

  • nervous or fearful of using the internet or new devices;
  • anxious about their young ones using the internet;
  • concerned cyberbullying may be impacting their child;
  • concerned their child may be engaging in cyberbullying behaviours;
  • would like to learn how to identify when cyberbullying may be impacting their family unit; and
  • would like supportive, practical information around starting uncomfortable conversations.

The free cyberbullying training and eResources for parents and carers, be accessed from the Parentline website.

Pupil Free Day

This Friday 4th of September is a Student Free Day.  The school will not be open on this day.

Early Departures

We would like to remind families that signing students out early should be the exception rather than the norm and that a valid reason needs to be provided.  Our office staff are being overwhelmed with a massive increase in the number of early sign outs.  We understand that this is sometimes unavoidable.  Please consider if an early sign out is essential.

School Gates

We would like to remind parents and students to arrive as close to the start of the school day as possible.  The first bell rings at 9:00am with formal learning beginning at 9:10am.   Students will remain seated in the Undercroft until 8:30am.   Students will only be allowed to access the oval from 8:30am. The Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 gate will open at this time also (8:30am).  If the gate is closed and no adult is present, entry must be via the main office entry.  Please leave the gates closed.  A staff member will open them.  The gates close at 9:10am.  At this time our staff move to classes to support students in their learning.  All students arriving after this time are required to sign in through the office.

Feedback

We are always open to feedback as this helps our school to continuously grow and improve.  There are many appropriate ways to provide feedback to our school and we appreciate the time and effort people have taken to ensure they are using these avenues.  At the moment we have modified some of our avenues for providing feedback.  The most effective way in this present situation is to email our admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au email address or via a phone call.

Kindest Regards,
