School Review
Every Queensland state school is reviewed by the Education Improvement Branch (EIB) at least once every four years. The reviews play an important part in how the department supports school improvement. They provide schools with independent feedback, tailored to their context and needs. Our school will be undergoing a review 11-13 November and as part of this, parent and community engagement forms a key component. More information about how you can be involved will be shared over the coming months.
Rotakids
Our Semester 2 Rotakids have been appointed and are busy organising activities for our students to participate in, under the supervision of Mrs Kettle and Mrs Schulke. In 2019, our school was recognised in the State Education Showcase Awards for our student Rotakids and in 2020 we are pleased to be applying again for Showcase recognition. Thank you to Ms Norris and Mrs Kettle for the promotion of our school in this state-wide award program.
Breakfast Club
Our Breakfast Club will be re-commencing from Wednesday 19 August. This is for students who might not otherwise have breakfast and is served from the tuckshop. The offerings (Tuesday- Thursday) will be cereal and milk. Food labels are on display and available from the tuckshop. Please note, if your child has any special dietary concerns, please advise them NOT to participate in the Breakfast Club.
Prep Enrolment 2021
Enrolment packages for Prep in 2021 are now available from the office. Student details will be required when an enrolment form is given out. Eligible students for Prep in 2021 must turn five on or before 30 June 2021.
Completed enrolment forms are to be returned to the school office. We need to sight original Birth Certificates when enrolment forms are returned. Enrolment will not be completed without the Birth Certificate. For any further enquiries, please contact the school on 4975 8333 or email admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au
This term in Science we have been investigating the properties of materials through describing their physical characteristics; such as durable, rough, elastic, etc. Last week students have taken this knowledge and understanding a step further by conducting an experiment on the smudge resistance of flour when mixed with different liquids. As part of the investigation students observed the properties of the mixtures, made predictions, identified risks and conducted an experiment that is fair. This has allowed students to determine which liquid when mixed with flour has the best smudge resistance, then have applied this knowledge to a real-life situation of creating paint. This week students will conduct another experiment using flour and different liquids to test the water fastness of the mixtures.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Welcome to the second half of the term. The Positive Behaviour for Learning lesson for Week 6 is: Respectful – I keep my hands and feet to myself. Even though social distancing has been a part of our daily life for most of this year, it’s important we remind the students about keeping hands and feet to themselves and there are plenty of ways they can do this like:
- Keeping 1.5m distance when walking around the school;
- Ensuring that during lining up they stand away from the person in front, behind and beside them;
- Keeping to the left of walkways at all times;
- Remembering that accidents happen, and that not all contact is deliberate.
Please take a moment to remind your child/children of the importance of keeping their hands and feet to self.
Fantastic Fun Friday was on last Friday and the theme was Hollywood Red Carpet! Students dressed up as their favourite celebrity, character from a TV show or book. Well done to all the parents who helped with their costumes. You can check out some of the awesome costumes below or on our Facebook page.

Enjoy your week.
Thanks.

Student Welfare Teacher
Congratulations to 6B and 6D who had a great attendance rate for Week 5. Their attendance rate was 94% for the week! Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
Pie Drive
Pie Drive notes were sent home with the eldest student and they have also been emailed. Please return order forms and the correct money BY NEXT MONDAY.
We are very happy to be supporting our local bakery this year. Hopefully there are lots of families able to purchase from our Pie Drive. Don’t forget to ask family and friends if they would like some pies or lamingtons. The more, the merrier but please do not door knock around the neighbourhood.
Orders are due back by Monday 24 August. NO LATE ORDERS CAN BE ACCEPTED, SORRY. Please return order forms and money to the P&C Box at the office.
Prep – Year 2: Wednesday 9 September
Year 3 – Year 6: Wednesday 16 September
For families with children in different year levels, your delivery date will be determined by your eldest child’s year level.
Tuckshop & Uniform Shop
This term, Tuckshop will be open first and second breaks, Tuesday through to Friday. We are still cashless, due to COVID procedures, so make sure you place all Tuckshop and uniform orders on the Flexischools App. Contact us via Facebook or via pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au for any queries regarding uniforms or tuckshop. We are always happy to help.
Flexischools
We have found an alternative to Flexischools which is more user friendly for our families and our P&C. Throughout this term we will be transitioning to use QKR, but don’t worry, this will be a slow transition. For now, Flexischools is still in use and this is the best way to order your tuckshop and uniforms. We will keep you updated as the transition begins in the coming weeks. Watch this space!
DESIGN YOUR OWN OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
We have a competition for our students to participate in! We want your ideas for a new outdoor learning space that we could create in our school. Please see attached flyer for more details.
