This term in Science we have been investigating the properties of materials through describing their physical characteristics; such as durable, rough, elastic, etc. Last week students have taken this knowledge and understanding a step further by conducting an experiment on the smudge resistance of flour when mixed with different liquids. As part of the investigation students observed the properties of the mixtures, made predictions, identified risks and conducted an experiment that is fair. This has allowed students to determine which liquid when mixed with flour has the best smudge resistance, then have applied this knowledge to a real-life situation of creating paint. This week students will conduct another experiment using flour and different liquids to test the water fastness of the mixtures.
