Arriving at School
As we near the end of the term, we would like to remind parents and students to arrive as close to the start of the school day as possible. The first bell rings at 9:00am with formal learning beginning at 9:10am. Students will only be allowed to access the oval from 8:30am.
Early Departures
We would like to remind families that signing students out early should be the exception rather than the norm and that a valid reason needs to be provided. Our office staff are being overwhelmed with a massive increase in the number of early sign outs. We understand that this is sometimes unavoidable. Please consider if an early sign out is essential.
2020 School Opinion Survey and Schooling During COVID-19 Survey
Parents and Caregivers are invited to participate in this year’s School Opinion Survey and have a say about schooling during the COVID-19 lockdown. You are also given the opportunity to provide feedback about our school more generally. Remember that when answering the questions, it is about the 2020 school year.
Participation in the survey is anonymous and you are encouraged to take this opportunity to have your say. The survey form has been designed so that it can easily be completed on a computer or smartphone. The online survey will be available until Friday, 17 July 2020, and should take less than five minutes to complete.
To access the survey, please click on the link below or copy and paste it into your web browser:

Please contact the school if you have any questions about the survey.
Thanks to our AMAZING Cleaners.
Visiting Classrooms
It has been wonderful to be able to visit our Year 6 classrooms as they have been learning about the differences in each decade. They have been engaging in some investigative and experiential learning to provide some insights into each decade to inform their letters they will be writing in English. Our students are very lucky to have teachers and staff who go above and beyond in providing these amazing learning experiences.
Feedback
We are always open to feedback as this helps our school to continuously grow and improve. There are many appropriate ways to provide feedback to our school and we appreciate the time and effort people have taken to ensure they are using these avenues. At the moment we have modified some of our avenues for providing feedback. The most effective way in this present situation is to email our admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au email address or via a phone call.
Positive Behaviour Learning - PBL
Week 9 is upon us and the Positive Behaviour for Learning lesson this week is: Respectful – How to solve a problem with my friend. As young children develop they will go through different social and friendship groups and the transitions may not always be smooth. It is for this reason that they need to be taught problem solving skills to help solve issues that are bound to occur. Some of these skills include:
- Using Talk, Walk, Squawk and developing the resilience to say, “Stop it. I don’t like it”;
- Knowing that it is okay to like different activities;
- Understanding that it’s okay to spend time apart and to play with other children without becoming jealous; and,
- Being aware of our own triggers and knowing when to walk away before things escalate.
Please take a moment to go over this with your child/children.
Fantastic Fun Friday is on this Friday in classrooms across the school. Each class should have decided on their reward activity for completing their Stamp Chart this term so please remind your child/children to get their Stamp Chart in to the office so they can join in the fun.
Calliope News is on Facebook every Tuesday at 9.00am. Please like and share it.
Thanks.
