Staffing Update
Our Principal, Ms Moira Mackenzie has had to take some unexpected leave for the next four weeks.
Our Deputy Principal, Mrs Naomi Hughes will be Acting Principal until August 18th.
School Opinion Survey
This year’s School Opinion Survey runs from 22nd July to 16th August 2024. Parents,
caregivers and students are encouraged to participate.
Your insights will help us know what our school does well and how we can improve. Participants will be emailed a link to access the survey the week before it opens. Survey responses are confidential. The survey usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete. More information can be found on the School Opinion Survey webpage or by contacting the school.
Is your family eligible for free internet access?
Families with school-aged children who do not have current internet access at home, may be eligible for the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI).
To ensure all students have equal opportunity for online learning, the SSBI offers eligible families free NBN broadband access. For more information or to check your eligibility, call the National Referral Centre (Monday to Friday) 1800 954 610 or visit the SSBI website.
Parent & Community Code of Conduct
Positive relationships between parents/caregivers and the school
are vital to productive and successful partnerships for your child’s learning.
If an issue arises that you would like to discuss, your first point of contact is your child’s classroom teacher. If this issue requires further support, the year level Deputy Principal will support the classroom teacher in addressing this issue.
Parent Interviews – Term 3
It was great to see a large number of parents meeting with our teachers for the Term 3 Parent Teacher meetings. These meetings are the opportunity for parents and caregivers to meet with teachers about their child’s achievement and progress, after the Semester 1 report cards have been distributed.
Pyjama Day
Calliope RotaKids are running a Pyjama Day on Monday 5 August. Students and staff
are invited to wear their pyjamas to school on this day for a gold coin donation. Funds raised will go to The Pyjama Foundation.

Week 6 - Bullying No Way! - Student can Wear orange in support of Bullying No Way day Friday 16th August
Week 8 - Road Safety Week - Students will be participating in a range of classroom and outdoor activities throughout Week 8 (Please see flyer attached). Teaching children about road safety increases the awareness among children of the hazards involved in being on the road, whether as a pedestrian, cyclist/scooterist, car passenger and encourages them to be safe.
Congratulations to 3A who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 2. Their attendance rate was 91.42% for the week!
Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
We are focusing on classroom and school expectations. Students will be discussing
positive self-talk and looking activities they have done and will do to better their confidence and gratitude. This incorporates growth mindset and the understanding of why it is important to do self-talk. At home, it would be a good idea to practise using growth mindset statements at home. Use the poster for ideas.
Gem Chat
What mindful activities will you be doing this week? Students have worked through many strategies to help with mindfulness. Some ideas are, 5 star breathing, belly breathing, colouring, drawing and meditating.

This week we heard from Dr Emily Musgrove who says Your values are perfect. Although this sounds counter intuitive to what we usually say…it’s actually a beautiful place to start.
Figuring out what your values are, and where they come from can be a pretty intense experience. Lucky we have Dr Em to help, breaking down why they are important and how they can add purpose to your life. As she explains, our values work like a compass, and when used responsibly, can point us in the direction of the person we want to be.

Over the past weeks, we've delved into the realm of emotions through a unique lens: The Resilience Project. This initiative has not only fostered a deeper understanding of our feelings but has also integrated seamlessly with our academic pursuits, particularly in mathematics.
The students have been focusing on multiplication—a fundamental skill that builds not only mathematical proficiency but also resilience and perseverance. By tackling complex multiplication problems, our students have learned the value of patience, problem-solving, and the satisfaction of overcoming challenges.

Hi Families,
A massive thank you to all the families, friends and community who purchased Pies and Lamingtons through our drive.
It was brought to our attention once the drive had closed that the decription of the lamingtons on QKR was incorrect. The lamingtons are not jam filled and as per previous drives have never been filled. We apologise for the incorrect description.
726 pies and sweet pies where purchased, along with 335 lamington orders.
A reminder to collect your pies will be sent out closer to the pick up allocated date.
Please keep your eyes peeled for what our next fundraiser will be as we have a couple of new ones coming your way.
The Resilience Project – Family Journals
This year our school has been participating in “The Resilience Project”. The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs to schools, sports clubs and businesses, providing practical, evidence-based mental health strategies to build resilience and happiness. Through presentations, school curriculum, events, the TRP App, and Wellbeing Journals, they share the benefits of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness, and easy ways to practise these in everyday life. The RP team also incorporate Emotional Literacy, Connection and Physical Health education and activities as they are foundational contributors to positive mental health.
The P&C supports this program and to show our support the P&C purchased a Family Wellbeing Journal for each family (given to the eldest in the family) so the children can fill them with daily reflections, questions and practical activities designed for the whole family. Catered for adults and children of all ages, this journal is a great way to build happiness and resilience in your household.
Each Journal Features:
- 10 weeks of daily reflections, questions and practical activities
- Focus on gratitude, empathy and mindfulness to improve everyone’s mental health
- Daily Healthy Family Habits tracker to monitor our sleep, exercise and eating
- Weekend activity library with over 30 activities suitable for a variety of age groups
If you wish to purchase another or any other products by visiting https://theresilienceproject.com.au/shop/product
Journals will be sent home on Friday 26th July 2024.

FRIENDLY REMINDER
Kind, firm boundaries are actually a big part of parenting with an attachment lens. Consider the lines on the highway, without them there would be chaos! Boundaries, like the lines on the highway, show us where we can safely operate, and without them, children often feel unsafe.
The second part to this reminder, is that kids are allowed to be upset about the boundaries we set. It can make them feel frustrated, or limited, angry or sad, and that’s totally valid. Being there for them to hear them out, offer comfort and support, while STILL holding that boundary is a huge part of parenting securely attached children.
If you’d like to learn more about how to set firm, kind boundaries with your little ones, our free program Tuning In To Kids is the perfect place to start! Register your interest today via our website strongcommunities.org.au or email us admin@strongcommunities.org.au we’d love see you there #parentingprogram #strongcommunities #tuningintokids #boundarysetting #limits
