In Science we have been learning about exploring energy and electricity. Part of our learning involved creating an operating electrical circuit. We have also been investigating alternative energy sources and identifying the advantages and disadvantages of each.
We would like to thank our school community for working with us this term to support our students. Our staff have done a fantastic job of implementing our “Core Business” of supporting students in classrooms to learn the Australian Curriculum, along with providing a wide range of extra curricula activities. Students have done an amazing job of engaging with school life this term. Our Year 5s are finishing their term by heading off to camp at the Capricorn Caves. Our attending staff give up their own time and family commitments to enable these amazing experiences and we thank them for doing so.
If you notice anything with our school as you are travelling past that affects our school, please contact School Watch.

Swimming Update
Further to the updates provided previously, we would like to share some additional information in regards to the decision to modify the model for school swimming at Calliope State School. The planning to keep swimming as part of the Calliope State School educational experience had been one of the driving factors in moving forward with the model being implemented in Term 4. A variety of solutions were considered, and some of the available solutions involved students not being in the pool at all. The solution to be implemented will be “in addition to” to the subject of PE. Our previous model has been an overallocation of the expected implementation time for this component of the PE curriculum. The solutions have been under consideration, with a positive problem-solving approach applied, for a number of years now before any changes were approved to be implemented.
Individual parent queries and questions cannot be answered separately and all information will be provided in the newsletter and parent permission forms. Please refer to these as the correct information about swimming.
Pink Stumps Day

There will also be arts and crafts along with face painting in the undercroft in first break for all year levels.

Our fabulous tuckshop convener, Miss Lisa, has been working hard as normal filling hungry bellies this term. We would like to thank Miss Lisa and Miss Mel for their efforts every day and all tuckshop volunteers we have had over this term. Without all your help, the tuckshop wouldn’t be able to run like it does. So, Thank You all!
Miss Lisa can always use an extra set of hands or two each tuckshop day to make sure your kids get their food as quickly as possible at break times. If you’d like to lend a hand, please contact Miss Lisa via our Facebook page or pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au

Travel to and from School - Road Safety
We would like to remind families to ensure that they supervise their children on their way to and from school. There have been some recent comments about unsafe road crossings and other disrespectful interactions. Whilst the students may come from our school, it is a parent/carers responsibility to ensure their child’s appropriate behaviour outside of school hours. Have you given your child/ren a reminder about safe, respectful and responsible actions whilst travelling to and from school recently?
R U OK? Day/ Dress Up For Wildlife
Last Friday Calliope SS took part in R U OK? Day & Dress Up For Wildlife to raise awareness at our school. Students took part in lunchtime activities and enjoyed a sausage sizzle at second break, bringing everyone together and giving an opportunity to ask, 'Are You okay?'
A HUGE thank you must go out to Vanessa Druce from Lifestyle Church Calliope, who spent hours cooking sausages for our sizzle. Another shout out must go to Mel Platten & Miss Emma for helping, particularly during the clean up and all other amazing staff that assisted!!! ?Thanks also goes to the Rotakids, staff and Chappy Nici who arranged and ran the activities. Great job everyone! The students had a ball!

The Monster Inside Me
Lilly awakes by a rustling in the bushes outside her window. She slowly walks over to the window and sees her twin sister outside but she is not the same her eyes are red and here skin is curved in white scales. She was crawling around on the ground like a lizard. Then she looked at Lilly. Elsy disappeared. There was a fail smell like poo and Lilly’s sister appeared on the window her blood red eyes looking in to Lilly’s frightened white face. Staring at her, Elsy disappeared once again the smell had gone too. Lilly slowly backed away and ran to the front door and put her jacket on. She left the house and went to look for her sister.
Reminders for Parents/Caregivers
Update Contact Details
We would like to remind all parents/carers to update your contact details. Have you changed jobs, address, internet provider or have a new phone number? Do you have a need to update your personal details, phone numbers, mobile numbers, addresses, email, emergency contacts, court orders to name but a few.
If you have had some changes to any of the above or wish to update your emergency contacts, please email: admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au or update through contacting our school office.
Early Collection of Student/s:
We realise that, on occasion, students may arrive late for school, or need to leave early; it is hoped that these occasions can be kept to a minimum so that the learning of the student, the class and the routine of the school is not unduly disrupted. In the event that your child is late or leaves early, please ensure that the correct procedure is followed to sign in/out by going to the Administration building signing out on the iPad, collect a slip and present it to the classroom teacher.
These processes are in place so that the teachers and school staff are aware of the movement of students at school. This is for the protection and welfare of all staff and students. It is important to look at the impact that late arrival and early departure have on a student/s education and those around them. It is not only disruptive to learning that is occurring in the classrooms at the time of arrival and departure, it is all time that accumulates to missed opportunities for learning. A student who is arriving late or leaving early by 15 minutes twice a week will miss, in total, the equivalent of 4 days of school across the year.
Messages to Students
As you know, schools and classrooms are very busy places!
To ensure our students are fully engaged in their learning, and our office staff are able to complete their multitude of daily required tasks, we ask that parents communicate clearly with their child at the beginning of each day where you will be picking them up from in the afternoon.
As you can imagine it is extremely difficult for our office staff to field scores of phone calls asking for messages to be passed on to children regarding pick-up information.
Should you need to contact your children throughout the day, please do this via the office. These should be emergency situations only. Messages received after 1.45pm may not be acknowledged by the class in time, so please ensure children know their pick-up arrangements.
Notification of Students Leaving Calliope SS
If you have a child /children who will be leaving Calliope State School during, or at the end of Term 4 this year, can you please notify the school office as soon as possible. Please notify our office via email at admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au or phone on 4975 8333.
