Leading into Holidays

We would like to thank our school community for working with us this term to support our students. Our staff have done a fantastic job of implementing our “Core Business” of supporting students in classrooms to learn the Australian Curriculum, along with providing a wide range of extra curricula activities. Students have done an amazing job of engaging with school life this term. Our Year 5s are finishing their term by heading off to camp at the Capricorn Caves. Our attending staff give up their own time and family commitments to enable these amazing experiences and we thank them for doing so.

If you notice anything with our school as you are travelling past that affects our school, please contact School Watch.

We wish all of our families a safe and happy time together over our holidays and can’t wait to see you again after the break.

  • Congratulations to Naomi Hughes on her successful appointment through the merit process into our Deputy Principal – Curriculum role.
  • Dave Romagnolo will be joining our team as the Acting Principal in Term 4.  He will be around a couple of days this week.  Please say hello and make him feel welcome if you see him out and about in our school.
  • Mehan Gahan will join our Year 1 team on 1A for Term 4 and Karynne Peters will be taking on an LRT role based in our school.  Amanda Whale will take on Student Learning and Wellbeing Teacher in a full time capacity as we start Term 4.
  • ChayleahWilson will be taking leave from Term 4 and we are currently advertising to backfill her Prep A role.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank Chayleah for her valuable contributions as part of the Calliope team.

Swimming Update

Further to the updates provided previously, we would like to share some additional information in regards to the decision to modify the model for school swimming at Calliope State School. The planning to keep swimming as part of the Calliope State School educational experience had been one of the driving factors in moving forward with the model being implemented in Term 4. A variety of solutions were considered, and some of the available solutions involved students not being in the pool at all. The solution to be implemented will be “in addition to” to the subject of PE. Our previous model has been an overallocation of the expected implementation time for this component of the PE curriculum. The solutions have been under consideration, with a positive problem-solving approach applied, for a number of years now before any changes were approved to be implemented.

Individual parent queries and questions cannot be answered separately and all information will be provided in the newsletter and parent permission forms. Please refer to these as the correct information about swimming.

Pink Stumps Day

Pink Stumps Day has been organised by our Rotakids and their supporting staff for Wednesday 14September.  Everyone is welcome to bring a cold coin donation and come dressed in PINK! There will be cricket games hosted with P-3 on the front oval and 4-6 on the back oval at first break. 4-6 will also be able to do this in second break on the back oval. There will also be arts and crafts along with face painting in the undercroft in first break for all year levels.
