COVID Update
Close Contact
In the 12 weeks after ending isolation
You are unlikely to get COVID-19 again in the 12 weeks after completing isolation. You are considered a “cleared case” for 12 weeks after your isolation ends.
During this time, if you get symptoms, you do not need to get tested but you are recommended to stay at home until you feel better. This is important to help you to recover and prevent the spread of any other viruses in the community.
If you are immunocompromised, you must quarantine if you become a close contact, even if you had COVID-19 within the previous 12 weeks.
Essential to the success of these measures is that if your child is unwell or displaying any COVID-19 symptoms, they must not attend school. I cannot emphasise this message strongly enough – it is critical to keeping our school community safe. Your child, if they have COVID-19 symptoms, can visit your local Queensland health testing clinic and will be given priority access to a free RAT.
No Hat, No Play
The Queensland Government is committed to protecting students from the harmful effects of the sun. In alignment with the Department of Education’s sun safety in state school’s procedure, Calliope State School is commitment to sun safe practices and implements the Calliope State School Sun Safety Policy. As a part of this policy we are required to ensure that students are wearing protective clothing when outdoors to reduce their risk of exposure to the sun and this includes wearing appropriate hats. As a part of this policy, if students attend school without a hat, they will not be permitted to play in our outdoor areas. Please expect that the classroom teacher will be in touch with you if your child/ren repeatedly turn up to school without a sun safe hat.

NAPLAN
Calliope State School will be participating in NAPLAN Online again in 2022. Calliope State School’s NAPLAN test window will be from Tuesday 10 May – Monday 16 May.
We are currently in the process of finalising student participation for the tests. Adjustments for students with a disability will be put in place to support their access and to facilitate maximum participation. All students in Years 3 and 5 are encouraged to participate. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s participation in NAPLAN, please contact your child’s class teacher.
Please see the Calliope State School’s NAPLAN timetable below.
Social Media and the School Community
Is it appropriate to comment or post about schools, staff or students?
- Parental and community feedback is important for schools and the department. If you have a compliment, complaint or enquiry about an issue at school, the best approach is to speak directly to the school about the matter, rather than discussing it in a public forum.
- While many schools use social media to update parents of school notices, the department prefers that parents contact schools directly with a compliment, complaint or enquiry due to privacy considerations. Imagine if your doctor, accountant or banking institution tried to contact you to discuss important matters via Facebook.
- If you have raised an issue with a school or know that another person has, consider refraining from discussing those details on social media, particularly the names of anyone involved.
- Keep comments calm and polite, just as you would over the telephone or by email.
- If you encounter negative or derogatory content online which involves the school, hinders a child’s learning and/or affects the school community at large, contact the school principal.
