TERM 4 - WELCOME BACK
I trust you all had a wonderful break and had the opportunity to spend some quality time with your loved ones. As a staff, we have ‘hit the ground running’ and will be focusing on the priorities outlined above. As the term starts to evolve, we will continue to unpack with you what this looks like in terms of success for the students at Calliope State School.
COVID UPDATE
Remember
You must practise physical distancing as much as possible and:
- wash your hands regularly with soap and water, and use alcohol-based sanitiser
- avoid hugs, kisses and handshakes
- wherever possible keep at least 1.5 metres away (two big steps) from people you don’t live with.
Face Masks in high-risk impacted areas
- Brisbane City Council
- Gold Coast City Council
- Logan City Council
- Moreton Bay Regional Council
- Townsville City Council (including Magnetic Island)
- Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council
Anyone who has been in, or resides in the same household as a person who has been in, the above Local Government Areas will be subject to the same Stage 2 restrictions.
Outdoors
If you have been in, or reside in the same household as a person who has been in, any of the above Local Government Areas on or since 1am AEST 19 September, you must wear a face mask at all times, including outdoors, in high-risk impacted areas when you are unable to stay 1.5 metres away from people who are not from your household.
If you travel outside one of the above Local Government Areas, you take the restrictions with you so you will need to wear a mask at all times and be seated when eating and drinking, wherever you are, for 14 days after you leave. If you come into a Local Government Area that has restrictions, you are bound by these restrictions when you enter, and for 14 days after you leave.
You must also wear a face mask at public transport waiting areas or taxi ranks and in outdoor workplaces. Masks do not have to be worn outdoors if:
· you are alone in your car or with the members of your household
· you are eating or drinking
· you are participating in strenuous exercise
· it is unsafe to wear a mask.
Indoors
You must wear a face mask at all times when you are indoors, including workplaces unless:
· you are at your residence
· you are eating or drinking
· it is unsafe to wear a mask.
We recommend everyone else in Queensland keep a mask with them so that if you are in a situation where you may not be able to maintain physical distancing, you have some added protection by wearing a mask.

Hi guys! If you were wondering the answer is “yes” we have a new School Chaplain and my name is Sheree Jarman. I love working with kids and if you would like me to support your child physically, emotionally or spiritually please contact me via email sjarm17@eq.edu.au to discuss how I can be of assistance. I am also here for the school community so please reach out if you would like to talk to me and we can sit down for a chat.
During term 4 I will be here on Monday’s, Tuesdays and Friday’s every week. This term I will be starting a program called Seasons for Growth. This program offers children and young people a safe space to come together, and share their experiences of change and loss. Children will learn that they are not alone in their experience and are able to build their communication, resilience, decision making and problem-solving skills within the context of a safe and supportive peer group learning environment. This program is suitable for children who have suffered change or loss from parents divorcing or separating, step families, foster care, loss of loved ones or other significant changes that have affected their ability to concentrate in a learning environment. If a child has recently lost a loved one this program is not recommended until 12 months after the loss has occurred. The program runs for 8 sessions and is about 30-45 minutes a session. If you think your child is experiencing difficulty concentrating at school due to a significant loss or change in their lives please email me to determine if they would be suitable for this program.
Mental Health Week – is next week 11th October – 15th October and I will be introducing a new program called BE BRAVE. This program is designed to help kids get the most out of their education by removing negative emotions or thoughts that may be getting in the way of their ability to concentrate. I will be starting to teach grades 3 and 4 next week then over time encouraging other grades to participate. Mental Health Week has a theme for each day and

Thank you for your consideration.
