6A have been having fun with our learning of Angles. The students have collaborated in small groups to investigate and create a range of board games to consolidate their understanding of how to measure and create angles. They worked through the investigate, ideate and produce stages which has given them a much deeper understanding of Angles. The students have been working hard reading two novels by Elizabeth Honey “Don’t pat the Wombat” and “45+47 Stella Street” where they have been identifying Literary Devices and the Author’s purpose.

Head of Special Education Services (HoSES)
This week sees our new HoSES, Amanda Whale, join us here at Calliope State School for the remainder of the term. Learning Expectations
Currently, our year-to-date attendance percentage is 90.8% with our target being 94%.
Why does school attendance matter?
Regular school attendance gives students a better chance at life. Students achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day because:
- they have increased access to learning opportunities
- they maintain friendships
- they stay connected to the curriculum progression
- they develop self-efficacy as a learner
- they have better long-term life outcomes.
Feedback Survey - Lunch Breaks
Thank you for all of your feedback. We will review the feedback provided and start to look at what this means for Calliope State School into the future in terms of when and how lunch breaks for students will be structured. I will continue to keep you informed as we progress.
Athletics Carnival
The Calliope State School Athletics Carnival was held over 3 days last week. The students had an absolute blast! They thoroughly enjoyed getting outside and participating in the activities including races, shot put, long jump and ball games. A huge thank you needs to be extended to Mrs Betts for the time and effort that she put in to preparing for the week and leading on the day. Our P&C also did a fantastic job of serving food to attendees on Friday. We thank all volunteers that gave up their time to support the school.
Evacuation Drill
We had an evacuation drill today at lunch time as per the EQ regulations in schools. Everyone did a great job and was very prompt in the situation.
Help stop the spread of colds and flu
Flu is a serious illness for everyone, but particularly for children. It is important to practice good hygiene and have the flu vaccine each year as it can reduce the chance of getting the virus.
Please remind your children to wash their hands regularly and cover coughs and
sneezes with a tissue or their elbow. If your child is unwell, keep them at home andnotify the school as soon as possible. Seek medical advice if you are concerned about your child’s health.
Let’s work together to keep everyone healthy! For more
information visit the Queensland Government website.

Coralie Ditchmen
