This semester, 4B has been learning about The First Fleet and the settlement of Australia. Throughout our learning, a task was set where the students had to act as a child who was affected by The First Fleet. Students were able to choose from a variety of characters including; a child convict who was convicted for crimes as little as stealing buttons, a surgeon’s child who was unable to play with any of the child convicts or an Aboriginal child who was affected by The First Fleet. Earlier last week, 4B stood up in front of the class or a small group of peers and presented their act. We did such an amazing job and even had students dressing up and getting into full character!

FEEDBACK SURVEY - LUNCH BREAKS
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HKNWNPQ
As a school, we are seeking feedback from the school community about the structure of our Lunch Breaks.
Currently First Break runs from 11am to 11:45am. The students play for the first 30 minutes and then they have 15 minutes to sit and eat their lunch before returning to class. All students do have the option to eat in a supervised, designated area during the 30 minutes playtime if they choose.
Second Break runs from 1:15pm to 1:45pm. Prep to Year 2 have 15 minutes of play and then sit for 15 minutes to eat their lunch. Year 3 to Year 6 have 30 minutes of play with the option of eating for the last 15 minutes in a supervised, designated area if they choose.
Positive Behaviour for Learning data has been used to drive the decision about allocating play time before eating time. Prior to changing the lunch breaks to their current structure, there were a lot of Red Card, Tier 3 behaviours (office referrals) being demonstrated in the transition from the oval to the designated line up areas as well as on the way to class often as a result of students still being in a heightened state after play. These behaviours have significantly decreased by allowing the students time to eat and sit and eat in a calm environment, prior to returning to the classroom. The students are ‘fuelled’ ready to learn.
STOP, DROP AND GO
https://www.facebook.com/CalliopeStateSchool/videos/464651811146265
The safety of our students is a priority at Calliope State School; please be patient when using Stop, Drop and Go. Do not park in the Stop, Drop & Go zones at any time as this congests the flow of traffic and blocks access to the kerb. Some key points to remember:
· Stay in your car and leave the car running so that you can move forward (this maintains a steady flow of traffic).
· Keep left while queuing for Stop, Drop & Go.
· Children must enter and exit cars from the kerb side only.
· Give way when exiting the drop zone.
· In the afternoon, delay your arrival to minimise traffic congestion.
· If your child is not yet at Stop, Drop & Go, drive slowly through the carpark and turn right just before the exit to re-join the queue.
If you are unable to use Stop, Drop & Go area in this manner, please park your vehicle to drop or collect your child.
STUDENT WELLBEING CENTRE
Starting this week, the Student Wellbeing Centre will be a place where ALL students can go before school and during the breaks. It will be a safe, supported, calm space where the students can engage in a variety of structured activities. It will also be an area where students can eat their lunch if they choose to. The Student Wellbeing Centre is open from 8.30am to 9am each morning and both breaks; 11am to 11:45am and 1:15pm to 1:45pm.
