TERM 2 – WELCOME BACK!
I trust you all had a wonderful break with and had the opportunity to spend some quality time with your children. As a staff, we have ‘hit the ground running’ and will be focusing on the priorities outlined above. As the term starts to evolve, we will unpack with you what this looks like in terms of success for the students at Calliope State School.
2021 AEDC COLLECTION FOR PREP STUDENTS
In early 2021, our school, along with thousands of others across the country will begin preparations for the fifth Australian Early Development Census (AEDC).
The AEDC gives us a national picture of the development, health and wellbeing of children in their first year of full-time school. Since 2009, the census results have helped communities, schools and governments plan services and develop better policies to target support for children and families.
The AEDC will be completed at school and children don’t miss any class time. The AEDC gives us data at a school and community level - it isn’t an assessment of individual children.
Participation in the AEDC is voluntary. Parents/carers don’t need to take any action unless they choose not to include their children in the census.
To find out more about the census and how communities are using the data to help children and families visit the AEDC website: www.aedc.gov.au.
If you have any questions, you can contact your child’s Prep teacher or Raelene Norris (Deputy Principal).
SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES
We all need a helping hand from time to time.
oneplace is an online community services directory created to help Queenslanders easily find local support.
There are more than 58,000 services listed in oneplace offering support with parenting, domestic and family violence, legal and financial issues, mental health and counselling, housing and food assistance.
oneplace highlights all the information you need to know, including the distance from your current location to a service, the cost of the service, any eligibility requirements and transport options.
The best part is that oneplace is easy to use and it’s free

The Student Wellbeing Team of CSS are very pumped about the term ahead. We are excited about new intervention groups and activities that have been organised, along with continuing to support and assist students and teachers. This week’s PBL focus lesson is ‘Using my words to communicate my needs’ and will involve learning strategies in identifying emotions/feelings and the safe way to communicate their needs using words. This particular topic links well with the YCDI curriculum taught in every classroom and the Zones of Regulation strategies implemented by numerous teachers in the school.
The Week 10 triangle data is below along with some extra information about the PBL tiers of support:
