Calliope State School’s Strategic and Annual improvement Plan for 2021.
Over the past few weeks the Leadership Team has been working tirelessly on the Strategic Plan 2021-2024. Over these four years we will be focusing on Every Student Included: This will focus on our Whole School Inclusive Practices, Student Code of Conduct implemented with integrity through the Positive behaviour for Learning Process, Whole school implementation of the Student Learning and Wellbeing Framework.
The other area of focus is Every Teacher Excelling: This will include; the implementation of effective, evidence based reading pedagogies in every classroom, effective pedagogies evidenced in planning and classroom practice to improve student engagement, and deepening staff member's knowledge and understanding of the Australian Curriculum, including the general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities.
Communication regarding Acting Principal
This week, I will again be here at Calliope State School as Acting Principal. We will have more news next week as interviews are being held this week.
Have you organised a pick up plan with your child or children???
Please remember to have a conversation and organise a plan with the new pick up points for the school that were communicated in the newsletter last week.
Can I also ask you to remind your child/ren regarding morning routines.
Over the last week at Calliope State School, I have had some conversations with students and parents regarding leading questions and thinking positively towards school. When a child jumps into a car or is met by a parent or carer, they are normally approached by 3 types questions. First type is a very typical question: What did you do today? and like most parents I am sure you get “ Nothing, Don’t Know” I find myself as a parent being very frustrated with this reply.
The second question is the one that goes negative, What happened today? and the student responds with “not good, I got into trouble, etc” and at this point in time we can either make this conversation negative or positive. We as parents turn what was meant to be a positive conversation into a negative with leading questions- Who did that? Did such and such a teacher do that? This leads to negative thought and with children being at school for a large percentage of their week, we want them to have positive interactions with school.
The third one is my favourite and is the most positive reaction and engagement, and below I have listed a few that nay help guide this conversation.
What was the funniest thing that happened today?
Did anyone do anything super nice for you?
When did you feel most proud of yourself today?
What challenged you today?
What would you rate your day on a scale of 1 to 10? Why?
What was the nicest thing you did for someone else?
3D have been having a blast in Maths this week learning different strategies for solving addition and subtraction. Our favourite so far has been the jump strategy with lots of success in our learning for everyone. In Science we have had an exciting time looking at the difference between living and non-living things. Rumour has it we will start to grow our own plants in the classroom soon!
Congratulations to Prep D who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 6. Their attendance rate was 98% for the week! Also congratulations to the 20 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 6. Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
