We have just passed the half way mark for Term 1! Last week we had our Assistant Regional Director, Dale Magner, visited the school with two Principals from the North Burnett region. It was a fabulous opportunity for the Leadership Team to share our Strategic Wall (our school’s journey over the last two years, especially focussing on reading) and for them to visit many of our classrooms to see that plan implemented in our rooms and talk to students about their learning.
Dr Seuss Day
With reading a focus area at Calliope State School, today, March 2, is Dr Seuss Day! Dr Seuss was a writer, poet and cartoonist. He is best known as a children’s author, writing forty-six books. Why not share a favourite Dr Seuss book with the family, or write your own story with an infectious rhyme and interesting situation.
Update for End of Day Procedure
Starting this week, students will be dismissed from classrooms at 3.15pm.
- Parents are welcome to keep with the current plan to meet children at the gate of youngest child.
- Stop, Drop and Go will remain the preferred pick up plan.
- Families discuss their pick up plan and meeting area.
- Parents can enter the school grounds from 3.00pm and wait in the designated area for the family pick up plan.
- Prep Parents – Prep eating area or Prep playground – to leave through Prep gate
- Year 1/ 2 Parents – Library covered area – to leave through Year 1/ 2 gate
- Year 3-6 Parents – Grass area between Admin building and hall – leave through pool gate or office gate
- We ask that parents do not wait outside classrooms as this will distract children.
- Bus students will meet in the Tuckshop area
- Undercroft area is to remain free to allow students to move to Stop, Drop and Go and bike racks.
We will review the plan over the next few weeks.
Clean Up Schools Day
This Friday is School Clean Up Day. A Schools Clean Up Day is a great way to inspire our students to learn about the impact of rubbish on our local environment, while playing an active role in their community. In 2021, each class has an assigned area they take responsibility for throughout the year. On Friday, they will make sure their area is spick and span for Clean Up Day.
Parent Volunteer Mandatory Training
All volunteers are now required to attend a mandatory training workshop before they are able to assist in classrooms / tuckshop etc. The third session for this term will be held next Tuesday morning, 9 March at 9.15am. Please register your attendance by emailing admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au or calling the office on 49758333.
Life Education
The Life Education Van will be visiting Calliope State School from Wednesday 17 March – Wednesday 31 March 2021. A letter with further information will be sent home to families this week. The cost is $6.00 per child. There are great articles on the website for parents with up to date topics: http://www.lifeeducation.org.au/parents & https://lifeeducationqld.org.au/
Religious Instruction
Religion lessons will be starting soon for some year levels. The lessons are developed by the Gladstone Regional Christian Leaders’ Network as part of an authorised program. If parents don't want their child to attend RI lessons, please contact the office to change it or alternatively if you wish your child to participate, please contact the office on 4975 8333 or admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au
Have a wonderful week.

Raelene
We are investigating how contact and non-contact forces are exerted on an object. During our lessons, we have looked at multiple forces and how forces are not always equal. We have investigated how when two forces are exerted that the object moves in the same direction as the larger force causing an unequal force.

Congratulations to 3C who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 5. Their attendance rate was 99.09% for the week! Also congratulations to the 16 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 5. Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
WHERE CAN STUDENTS GO FOR HELP AND SUPPORT IN THE SCHOOL?
At Calliope SS we have an abundance of support services in the school. Starting at the base level, we can go to our teachers, teacher aides or the office. The teachers are always there to help and assist in any way they can. If it is above their level of expertise they often go to experts in the field, these include the guidance officers or administration.
The Hub is a place many students in our school go for help and support. The staff there are awesome and great problem solvers. Green zone is a place to go if you prefer a quiet lunch, or find the playground or ovals too overwhelming. There are games, have a conversation with other students or teachers, a place to sort out emotions or talk through issues.
There are many wonderful places and people we can go to at Calliope State School. We need to remember that if no one is aware of the problem, they cannot help to solve it.
