3D have been very actively engaged in our learning this term which has included lots of technology to help us learn Math concepts such as location and angles using Beebots and Spheros. We have also improved our understanding of PowerPoint on the computers to assist us in creating a multimodal English story about a fear. We learnt how to insert pictures, transition slides and animate text and pictures. The PowerPoint presentations looked amazing! 3D also learnt how to input data and create graphs on Excel on the computer to record how much rubbish there is in the school.

This year has certainly been an interesting and different one in so many ways. As a school we have been very appreciative of the wonderful parent and community support we have received throughout the year. As we head into the last six days of school, we have many reasons to stop and celebrate the successes and the challenges we have overcome. We still have quite a few events and special days to enjoy as we head towards the end of the 2020 school year.
Prep Transition
Last Friday we welcomed our 2021 Prep students and a parent to visit the Prep classrooms. This was part of our transition process to introduce the Kindy kids to school life. It was wonderful to see them engaging with the teachers and each other.
Our final transition afternoon will be Friday 4 December from 2.15-3.00pm. There are still some spots available. Bookings are essential on 4975 8333 or admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au

RotaKids' Dinner
Last week our RotaKids celebrated their achievements throughout the year with the Calliope Rotary Club. They spoke about their activities and the focus on student wellbeing for 2020.
Classes for 2021
On Monday 7 December, students will meet their 2021 teacher where possible and visit their 2021 classroom. Students will bring home a sheet of paper outlining their class, teacher and classroom for next year. At this stage we are working on having 27 classes in 2021. This will depend on any new enrolments or departures over the holiday break. Classes are not finalised until after Day 8 (5 February) next year.
Book Drop Off
Book Drop Off is happening on Friday January 22 between 1.30-3.00pm at this stage. This year, to meet COVID guidelines, we will be staggering the times families can attend. We will be grouping families according to surname and ask that you only attend Book Drop Off during your allocated time, to maintain number restrictions for adults to attend the school.
1.30-2.00pm – Surnames A-G
2.00-2.30pm – Surnames H-O
2.30-3.00pm – Surnames P-Z
Changes will only occur if Education Queensland COVID guidelines are changed over the holiday break, due to new information.
End of Year Parade
Our End of Year Parade and Principal’s Awards will be a virtual parade again this term, shared on Friday 4 December. During this parade the announcements of our 2021 School Leaders will be made. Look out for some other special videos during the last few days as well!
Student Free Days
Congratulations to 1A and 3B who had a great attendance rate for Week 8. Their attendance rate was 96% for the week! Also congratulations to the 6 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 8. Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Weekly Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

Welcome to Week 9. The PBL lesson this week is on: Responsible – Celebrating Success. At the end of each term it’s important to look back and celebrate how far we have come for a number of reasons. Some of these include:
- to help develop a positive outlook;
- to help remember that good things happened;
- to help set us up for a positive break; and
- to help set us up for a positive 2021.
Please spend a few minutes celebrating your child/ren’s success this term.
The last Fantastic Fun Friday for 2020 was on Friday and it was the Crazy Calliope Course. Below are some of the pictures from the event.
Thanks.

Calliope State School - ROBOTICS
This Saturday, Calliope State School’s RoboTRACKS Robotics Team will be competing in the North National Challenge at Sheldon College in Brisbane. The team of six Year 6 students have dedicated many lunch time hours to refining and improving their missions and presentations. Calliope State School wishes the team a very successful day. We would like to thank the coaches, Mrs Kettle and Miss Randall for the extra time that they have given to assisting this team. We would also like to thank the parents for managing to fit a trip to Brisbane into their busy lives. RoboTRACKS – good luck!!!!

Our Division 1 races were hotly contested events.
The Age Champion winners for 2020 were:
Year 6 Boys- Ashton Little
Year 6 Girls- Pippa Dwyer
Year 5 Boys- Cooper McCarthy
Year 5 Girls- Ashlyn Inwood
Year 4 Boys- Lachlan Dunstan
Year 4 Girls- Halle Dwyer
The new Student Code of Conduct begins on day one in January of 2021 and we at Calliope State School would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and parents who gave up their time to help contribute to the document. The saying ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ is apt here as the school is part of the community as much as the community is a part of the school. Parents and community members are always welcome to make appointments and come and talk to us about the school, behaviour and suggestions for new programs. We look forward to working with the community again in 2021. Have a safe holiday everyone.
Thanks.
