Prep D have been very actively engaged in their learning by collaborating with others, listening to explicit instructions and putting 100% effort into everything they do. The photos showcase a few different activities our class has been a part of during this term. As a part of our Visual Art assessment, we have been creating collages which represent weather, feelings and a story. Our beautiful rainbows (which are still in progress) derived from our learning about the weather in Science and our new obsession with rainbows. We tore magazines into pieces to create this collage rainbow. Describing characters has been another focus in English. We made Pig and Trevor characters from the classic 'Pig the Pug' books. Prep D drew the characters' faces by participating in guided drawing and then they brain-stormed adjectives to add descriptive words to their springy bodies. Our excursion to the GECC was also lots of fun and a very exciting day seeing the show Magic Beach!
Welcome to Week 8!

Swimming Carnival
We are excited to announce with the easing of restrictions we are able to hold our annual Swimming Carnivals this week. Prep to Year 3 will participate in their own cohort mini swimming carnivals and Years 4 to Year 6 will participate in a combined event. Due to COVID restrictions and the protocols of the Department of Education, only students and staff members will be attending the swimming carnivals. Under the current guidelines our pool area is physically too small to accommodate students, staff and parents at this event. Students are to wear swimming caps and appropriate swimming attire with a sun shirt. Students are allowed to swim without a sun shirt for their races; however, must wear a shirt at all times out of the pool.
Tuesday November 23 – 1.45pm – 3.15pm - Year 2 Swimming Carnival
Wednesday November 24 – 11.45am – 1.15pm – Year 1 Swimming Carnival
Wednesday November 24 - 1.45pm – 3.15pm - Year 3 Swimming Carnival

Year 6 Graduation
Year 6 Graduation will be held on Monday, December 7 from 5 – 6pm. Please RSVP by registering for your Year 6 Graduation tickets on Eventbrite by Friday, November 27. A maximum of two adults will be allowed to attend for each graduating student. Please, no children other than the graduating students can attend this event.
Christmas Cards
At this time of year, some students like to give their friends a Christmas card. This year we are happy for Christmas cards to be given out; however, it must be done using our school process to meet COVID Health guidelines.
Cards can be dropped in the Christmas Box outside the office. They need to be in the box by Friday 4 December at 3.15pm. Late cards will not be able to be accepted and handed out. All cards will be handed out to classrooms on Monday 7 December. Students are asked not to hand out cards to each other at school.
Food items such as candy canes are not to be included. Students can only post cards in the box.
Report Cards
Semester 2 Report Cards will be emailed home on December 8. Please contact our School Office if you need to update your email details.
Parents checking school bags before school each day
Can we please ask parents as a proactive strategy to check students’ school bags before they come to school each day. This is to ensure that any items that belong at home, stay at home (e.g. toys) and we can work together to minimise the risk of these items being damaged or lost.
Feedback Welcome Calliope State School
is committed to ensuring that ‘everyone at Calliope State School is working together to ensure that every day, in every classroom, every student is learning and achieving’. We want to know from our parents, carers and students, what we are doing well, and if there are any areas we can improve on or do differently. You can give feedback at any time to a staff member, coming into the school office, or leaving a message in our Suggestion Box (in the office foyer). Please be respectful when providing feedback.
If you have a complaint we ask that you:
1) Arrange a time to speak with the class teacher as the first point of call.
2) If your concern is regarding the classroom teacher or a staff member, contact the office to speak with a Deputy Principal responsible for your child’s sector.
· Miss Raelene Norris is the P-2 Deputy
· Mrs Naomi Hughes is the 3-6 A/Deputy
· Mrs Rebecca Crapp is the A/Principal.
We ask that you refrain from using social media platforms to comment about issues or incidents involving our school. We have a great school with great students and staff and together we can continue to promote our school as a fantastic learning venue in our community.
Kindest Regards,
Naomi Hughes
Acting Deputy Principal
Congratulations to 3A who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 7. Their attendance rate was 98% for the week! Also congratulations to the 9 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 7. Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Weekly Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Week 8 is here and the PBL lesson this week is on: Responsible – Remaining inbounds. Remaining inbounds at school is important for a number of reasons. Some of these include:
- we ensure our gardens remain pristine;
- we allow the wildlife to go about their day undisturbed;
- we keep our shoes clean which helps keep our classroom floors clean;
- we are within sight of a supervising adult who can ensure our safety; and
- we keep our distance from the horses to avoid being bitten or kicked.
Please spend a few minutes reinforcing the importance of remaining inbounds with your child/ren.
Fantastic Fun Friday is on this Friday and it will be a whole school event at first break – the Crazy Calliope Course. We will be on the back oval and there will be a giant course for kids to run and ball games happening as well. Be sure to let your child/children know to be part of the fun by getting their Stamp chart in.
Thanks.
