As Term 3 draws to a close, we celebrate another productive term of learning at our school! This Friday we will hold our virtual End of Term parade, so keep an eye on the Facebook page this Friday.
Our ACE students have persisted throughout the term, attending school, confidently participating and engaging with their learning both in the classroom and outside with extracurricular events as well.
Travelling to and from school
We remind students and families that on your way to and from school, you are to use designated pathways. Cutting through paddocks and yards of private residences is not safe and nearby families have requested students not to pat or approach animals such as horses in the paddocks due to safety reasons. The large block of land behind the school ovals/church and up to the housing estates in the proximity of the Bowls Club, is privately leased land. There is private property signage and fencing (including electric) in this area to assist with stock control. Ensure this area is avoided and caution taken.
Transitions
We have begun to meet some new families as we started our enrolment and interview process for Prep in 2021 over the last few weeks. Our Year 6 students are also starting the process of enrolment for High School in 2021. Packages for Calliope High School were given out last Friday, so please ensure you have completed forms for high school for the next steps to take place. Building firm partnerships from the beginning ensure strong connections between home and school.
School Support Staff
Last week we celebrated our amazing support staff at Calliope State School. We are
truly grateful to have such dedicated and supportive staff as Cathy, Emma and Maddi in the front office, our Business Manager Toni, Grounds Officer Lee and our IT Technician Bruce. We appreciate the wonderful work they do to ensure the smooth running of our school.
Book Week Celebrations
Book Week was rescheduled this year and will be held in Week 3, 19-23 October, of next term. The theme is ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’. Students will have a dress up/costume day on Friday 23 October. Rehearsals are well under way for the annual staff performance. It will be shown during Book Week!
P&C Meeting
Our next P&C meeting will be held tonight at 6.00pm in the Administration Building. Please email the P&C at pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au if you intend to attend the meeting. This will ensure there is enough space for all to comply with social distancing regulations.
School Watch
the vacation period and report any suspicious behaviour to School Watch by telephoning 13 17 88. Don’t forget that the school grounds should not be accessed out of school hours or during school vacation periods.End of Term
From all of the Leadership Team, we thank our parents for your continued support throughout this year. I would like to commend our staff and students on their resilience and adaptability to change and to you our parent community on your support and flexibility with the changed arrangements to keep our staff and students safe and well.
We wish Miss C (Teacher Aide) well as she finishes with us this Friday. All the best for your further studies.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our staff, students and families a safe and happy spring vacation and we look forward to the commencement of Term Four on Tuesday 6 October 2020. Happy holidays!

What’s happening in Health in Year 3?
We have had an exciting term of learning all about sustainability. Sustainability is how we can look after our environment. We have brainstormed and researched many different ways to be sustainable at Calliope State School. We ended up voting to have Nude Food.
What is Nude Food? It’s where we have one day a week that we ask students to have no rubbish in their lunch box. Families are having to be creative with how they pack their food. Containers and Bento Boxes are an amazing option.
The winning class will be invited to a pool party at the end of Term 4! Check out these amazing lunches!
Congratulations to Prep B who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 9. Their attendance rate was 99% for the week! Also congratulations to the 9 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 9. Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Week 10 is here and the Positive Behaviour for Learning lesson this week is: Responsible – Celebrating Success. It’s important to look back on the positives of
the term as over 95% of our students are in the green and making good choices. As well as good grades, we can also celebrate things like:
- If you have learned new spelling words this term;
- If your bookwork has improved;
- If you have filled in your Stamp Chart and gone to Fantastic Fun Friday;
- If you have been a good friend; and,
- If you have received a Cool Kid Award.
Please take a moment to ask your child/children about the good things and the success they have experienced this term.
Fantastic Fun Friday was on last week and we had over 330 Stamp Charts submitted. Prep to Year 2 had fun at their Spring Picnic while the Years 3 to 6 students worked up a sweat versing Mrs Betts in the Beep test. Well done to the top three who made it to level 10!
Have a safe break everyone and we look forward to seeing you back for Term 4.
Thanks.

Calliope State School's Wide World of Sport!
I am very excited to say that we have some great sporting opportunities coming up for Calliope students in Term 4. Cricket Queensland will be running a Junior Blasters Program after school for Prep to Year 3 students and NRL Queensland will be running a League Star Program after school for Year 4 to 6.
Please keep an eye out for the flyers that will be sent home with information about these two sporting opportunities.
RotaKids held their weekly meetings again this term. The main focus for RotaKids this term has been on the wellbeing of students and staff at Calliope State School. Events were held to encourage participation and fun during the lunch breaks. RotaKids also encouraged students at Calliope State School to write letters to the elderly for Seniors’ Week.
Two separate cricket games were held during lunch breaks, one for P-2 students and one for 3-6 students. The RotaKids who assisted with the P-2 cricket game did so with the spirit of having fun! While the younger students were hitting the ball sweetly, the older students looked to need catching practice! The older students were far more competitive on the day of their cricket game.
Our RotaKids invited all classes to write letters to the elderly to help them acknowledge and celebrate Seniors’ Week back in August. Thank you to 5A, 5B, 2B and 2D for writing letters and drawing pictures for our elderly residents of Gladstone. Certificates have been presented to the students who participated in this event.
Week 9 saw a teachers vs students’ netball game played at lunch time. While no official score was recorded, the height of the teachers may have disadvantaged the students and worked in favour of the teachers winning! A fun time was had by all.
RotaKids have also helped with the preparation of our Term 3 Fantastic Fun Fridays. Students put their creativity to work and designed a number of props for the photo booth. RotaKids for Term 4 will run in a similar way to Term 3 with discussions already underway for events for next term.

Last week of school. Woohoo! We would like to wish all Calliope families a very safe and joyful holiday. Hopefully all students, parents, carers and families return for Term 4, refreshed and rejuvenated to finish off 2020.
Pie Drive
Thank you to our Prep – Year 2 families who picked up their pies and lamingtons last Wednesday. TOMORROW is when the Year 3 – Year 6 families can pick theirs up from LIZZIE’S BAKERY. Details are below.
To ensure the pick up procedure of our pies and lamingtons is COVID safe, we have organised to have the pick up at Lizzie’s Bakery. You will be able to PICK UPYOUR ORDER FROM THE BAKERY on the days below. Simply enter the Bakery, tell the staff member your name and they will retrieve your order for you. Orders are under student’s names. Your original order forms will be given back to you so that you can distribute to family and friends who ordered. We believe that this is the best arrangement for everyone and we would love to say a huge THANK YOU to Lizzie’s Bakery for making this possible.
Delivery Days
Year 3 – Year 6: Wednesday 16th of September (TOMORROW)
For families with children in different year levels, your delivery date will be determined by your eldest child’s year level.
Flexischools to QKR!
We have seen many families download, register and use the QKR! app. We have already heard positive feedback about the transition. Please remember that you can still use Flexischools to order your uniforms and tuckshop until THIS FRIDAY. In Term 4, we will only be using QKR! Please register your school children as soon as you are able. Thank you.
QKR! is now live for our school! Families can download the App, register your details and order tuckshop and uniforms! Our P&C team will be checking BOTH Flexischools and QKR for orders over the next two weeks but from Term 4, only QKR! will be used.
Tuckshop & Uniform Shop
This term, Tuckshop will be open First and Second Breaks, Tuesday through to Friday. We are still cashless, due to COVID procedures, so make sure you place all Tuckshop and uniform orders on the Flexischools App OR QKR. Please remember that we are a small group of volunteers and that uniform orders take 3 school days to process. Contact us via Facebook or via pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au for any queries regarding uniforms or tuckshop. We are always happy to help.
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday 15th of September (tonight) in the school conference room at 6pm. Please email to notify us if you are attending. All apologies must also be emailed please.
We are signing out for this term but if you have any queries please feel free to contact us via the P&C Facebook Page or on the email address above.
