2024 Week 4 or Term 4, Week 11 (December 9 to 13)
Every 6 – 7 years, our school academic calendar requires a recalibration and in doing so we have an extra week added to the school year. Normally we have 10 weeks of learning per term, amounting to 40 weeks for the year. This year we have 41 weeks in the academic calendar. This is being resolved in 2024 by making Term 4 and 11-week term. This is what is being called Week 41 (or Week 11 of Term 4). Calliope State School will be open for all students in Week 41 (or Week 11 of Term 4), but we wanted you to be aware of some changes during this week.
All school learning, programs and events will be completed by Friday 6th December.
At Calliope State School, that means by Friday 6th December, we will have completed:
- All learning necessary for the year
- All ceremonies (e.g., Year 6 Graduation, End of Term Parades and Open Classrooms)
- All prep and high school transition days
- Allocation of 2025 classes and classroom transition activities
Report Cards will be sent home via email on Thursday 12th December.
In Week 11, from Monday 9th December, we will be taking this opportunity to have an enhanced focus on student wellbeing activities through alternate programs. It should be noted:
- Students may not necessarily be supervised by their regular teacher
- Students will be combined into diverse groups varying ages depending on the students who are present at school
- There will be no formal learning of the Australian Curriculum
- Activities will comprise of tasks that a multitude of age groups can participate in
- Groups of teachers will be taken offline to work on deep planning and preparations for 2025 in line with the Australian Curriculum
- Uniform is still expected to be worn each day

Intentions for 2025
If you are intending on leaving Calliope State School in 2025, please let our friendly office staff know, as we are in the planning stages of our classes for next year. Please email our office staff at admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au
Planning for classes in 2025 has already begun. Our first step is to finalise our anticipated enrolments for 2025. If you know of families considering Calliope State School in 2025, please encourage them to contact Administration as soon as possible. If your family intends on leaving our school next year, could you please notify Administration so that this planning can be as accurate as possible.
Welcome to Term 4, we are now officially half way through our last term together. Students have been learning about how to persuade the audience during English. We have some strong reasons on why all classes should have a pet. In HASS we have been learning about needs and wants and playing group games of survivor. We won’t have many that would survive a week on a deserted island. During Math students have been learning about fractions and decimals. Students had to support the teachers to increase a pancake recipe adding and converting fractions. Students all enjoyed their light and healthy pancakes. We are about to begin our budgeting and money unit. The first week saw students participate in Leadership activities. This required students to work with others and build new relationships while also supporting peers through challenges. Students are excited about how to budget with out going broke. It has been a great year and I wish 5A all the best for Year 6.
Prep Open Afternoons
Children enrolled to attend Prep at Calliope State School in 2025 are invited to attend an Open Afternoon at the school with a parent. You are welcome to come along on Friday 22 November or Friday 29 November from 2.00-3.00pm. Please contact the school to book in.
RotaKids are holding a free dress day on Thursday 7 November. The theme is ‘Rainbow Colours’. Students wearing free dress are asked to bring a gold coin donation and all funds raised will be going to the Calliope Scout group.
Please see attached Calliope State School book list for 2025. There has been a slight change to the original list communicated. The only change is the reduction in the amount of A4 Botany Book 18mm ruled for Prep. Thankyou
Parents, we have seen a lot of students attending Calliope State School, wanting to borrow spare hats. Could we ask that you speak with your child around using their hat and when finished placing it in their bags so the hat doesn't get lost. Could you also check that your child has a named hat for school. Thankyou with your help in this matter.
