Celebrated annually in Queensland on the last Sunday in October, Grandparents Day recognises the significant contribution that grandparents make to their families and communities. Did you know that you can apply for an exemption for your student if they are needing to take leave from school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days for an exceptional circumstance?
Please read the attached information sheet below for more information relating to this. The exemption form is also attached. These forms are also printed and available from the office.
If you are wanting to apply for an exemption, you will need to complete the form and have a discussion with your classroom teacher or organise a meeting with the Deputy Principal of the year level your student is in. You can do this by phoning the school office. They will then discuss the exemption with you and make the decision as to whether the exemption will be approved or not.
Congratulations to Mia our little ‘Wakeboarding Champ!’
Mia has been crowned under 10 Girl’s World Champion at the WWA Wakeboard World Wakepark Championship event held on the Gold Coast.
Mia was up against 7 other girls for the title. She seeded 3rd into the finals after having a fall in her heat but managed to do enough to place her in the final where
she had a great run to take the win!

Author, business lady and skincare wizard (according to her customs card), Zoë Foster Blake is nothing short of prolific.
Chatting with Hugh, Ryan and Josh in this Vulnerabilitea House, Zoë talks through the
pressure and responsibility she felt during her loneliest time.
Striking ‘luck’ as a dirty word, Zoë’s compulsion to be productive and produce ‘good work’ has earned her a multitude of publishing awards for her numerous books, the production of one of her novels into a TV show, the stocking of her skincare brand Go-To in Mecca and Sephora, and a cult following.
But something’s gotta give when you’re striving to have it all, and Zoë knows better than anyone how relationships, mental and physical health can all suffer when you’re burn-out adjacent.
Zoë preaches the importance of sleep, and discusses how she combats anxious thoughts before bedtime.

Hi Families,
Welcome to Term 4! We hope everyone had a wonderful school holiday and that you’re feeling recharged for what always seems to feel like the busiest term of the year!
This term the children will participate in the schools swimming program which is being facilitated by our very own and wonderful Mrs Betts! Term 4 swimming is such a great opportunity to provide water awareness and endurance leading into summer. If you have any spare swimming shorts, rashies or towels; please consider donating them to the school so every student has access to this amazing opportunity. Just drop them into the office, thanks so much!!
Our first meeting for this term is next week; Tuesday 8th October at 5pm in the Administration building. If you would like to be part of change and improvements for our school, this is where the magic begins! Or if you just want to be privy to what’s happening and what’s coming up; just come along and have a sticky beak!
As always, we welcome ideas and comments! Please contact us on: communication.calliopess@gmail.com for our Communication Officer or pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au for our Executive team.
Senior Shirts
Senior Shirt orders close this Friday 4th October. No late orders will be accepted. All orders are to be made via QKR and if you have any questions at all, please email the Uniform Coordinator at uniformshop.calliopess@gmail.com
Uniform Shop
We are urgently seeking volunteers to help pack orders weekly/fortnightly on a Friday for 1 hour (8:30-9am). If you are available and have completed your mandatory training, please email uniformshop.calliope@gmail.com
We would genuinely love to hear from the school community with any thoughts or ideas you have on how we can all work together to keep making progress in these areas. You can contact us on communication.calliopess@gmail.com for our Communication Officer or pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au for our Executive team.
Warm Regards
Geoff, Jason, Angela & Lisa
Parents, we have seen a lot of students attending Calliope State School, wanting to borrow spare hats. Could we ask that you speak with your child around using their hat and when finished placing it in their bags so the hat doesn't get lost. Could you also check that your child has a named hat for school. Thankyou with your help in this matter.

- Assist a primary / secondary school student’s education.
