Welcome to Week 3 of Term 2. This week our school review has taken place on Tuesday and Wednesday. Next week our Year 4 – 6 students will take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey (QEW). The QEW survey is designed to measure how state school students view their wellbeing and engagement. Please remember that next Monday is a public holiday, followed by our Year 2 excursion to the Historical Village on Tuesday of next week. There is excitement for our P&C’s Mother’s Day stall on Wednesday.
Equity and Excellence
Hours at our school are determined in consultation with the broader community.
The Department of Education will need to provide approval prior to a school commencing consultation on changes to school hours.
Any proposed changes to hours that may be considered in the future must be in the best interests of the school community and allow all students to have their full curriculum delivered. The changes must also not disadvantage any group of students or negatively impact on human rights.
Our school is not looking at changing school hours at this time. Some families find it more difficult with activities after school due to our later finish. Our school day is determined by bus drop off and pick up times. This is something we are hoping to explore this year.
What is Happening in May at Calliope State School
Congratulations to 2C & 2/3D who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 2. Their attendance rate was 97.72% for the week!
Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey
The QEW Survey is run in Weeks 1 to 4 of Term 2 each year. Students in Years 4 - 6 will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey.
We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The QEW Survey is designed to measure how students view their wellbeing and engagement across different topics. The information we get from the survey helps us better understand and support our students.
An information letter has been sent out to parents and carers this week. If you have any questions, please contact the school. More information, including FAQs, can be found on the Education website: (https://qed.qld.gov.au/publications/reports/statistics/schooling/students/queensland-engagement-wellbeing-survey).
This term 4B has settled back quickly into learning after the Easter break. Students are doing a wonderful job of following our classroom rules and the school’s expectations and have been working hard towards understanding new concepts in all learning areas.
In English we are working towards writing a Historical Recount of events that occurred during the colonisation of Australia which will be delivered as a multimedia presentation.
In HASS we continue to learn about the First Fleet and the changes that occurred due to the colonisation of Australia. We will learn about laws and rules and why they are important and will transfer our knowledge in HASS to understand and write our recount in English.
In Science we are learning about materials and their purposes. We will be looking at different materials and how they can be changed to suit a purpose. Students will investigate the properties affecting the use of ochre, connecting English, HASS and Science learning together.
In Math we have already looked at identifying odd and even numbers and completed our first Assessment Task for the term. We have now started to look at interpreting simple maps and will continue to learn our multiplication and division facts.
Join us on the 10th May 2024 to remember Dolly, to help raise funds to END BULLYING, and share the Dolly’s Dream message to be kind and speak, even if your voice shakes.
Gold Coin Donation would be appreciated and students can wear blue.
