Welcome Back Preps and Year 1s!
Yesterday, it was wonderful to welcome our Prep and Year 1 students back to school. It was pleasing to see how well the students entered the school and then engaged with their learning. Thank you parents for supporting your child’s transition back to school.
For families of Prep/Year 1 students, who have decided not to send your child back to school at the current time, please email their class teacher and they will advise you on how to access the Learning@home materials. You are also required to answer the daily text on your child’s attendance.
Return of Years 2-6
This Friday, we are expecting to hear an announcement regarding the return of students in Years 2-6 scheduled to occur on Monday 25 May. The return of these students is dependent on the current pandemic.
Daily Attendance
Thank you for responding to the daily text message regarding student engagement- this is a department requirement and also helps us know where you child is.
Access to the School
Please READ all signage at the gates regarding school access and follow social distancing requirements (1.5m). For the safety of all, parents/carers are NOT to enter the school grounds. If you must attend the office- you will be required to use the side window. Please note that staff are not available for face-to-face meetings, so please email or phone the office.
What’s Your Pick Up Plan?
- Students using Stop, Drop and Go will meet in the undercroft and be walked out. Don’t forget to make sure your child knows your car and have the NAME of the youngest in the family on the sun visor.
- Families with multiple children getting met at the gate, will go to the gate of the youngest in the family.
- Bike and scooter students will meet inside the school grounds and be released just after 3:15pm to allow for the exits to clear. (If they live in the direction of DRAKES- use the pool bike racks and entry gate, if they live in the direction of the Caltex- use the double gates at the front of the library).
Stop, Drop and Go (preferred method of pick up)
- For families using the Stop, Drop and Go facility, family units will be grouped together by staff PRIOR to leaving the school grounds and directed to the Stop, Drop and Go area.
- We ask that all families using the Stop, Drop and Go have a name plate with the surname of the youngest in the family on it, for quick identification- ideally place this on the left hand side sun visor so staff can read from the footpath.
- For single students (no siblings) they will be walked out to Stop, Drop and Go.
USB Collection
For families who have requested USBs, these are available to collect from the front of the office and contain the learning materials for Weeks 4 and 5.
Don’t Forget
Each day please ensure that your child:
- Has a hat
- Their Lunchbox- Our tuckshop is currently only operating on Thursdays and Fridays with orders encouraged via flexischools.
- A water bottle- our bubblers are not in use, so students require a water bottle. There are taps they can use to fill these up throughout the day.
- Knows how they are getting home.
If your child is sick- please don’t send them to school. If they display signs of illness during the day, parents will be notified for immediate collection.
We recognise the significant contributions that ALL families of Calliope State School have made in the past weeks with supporting your children’s schooling and we look forward to having all of our students back at school, in the coming weeks. For Year 2-6 families, class teachers will continue to support you as they have since the start of the term, so stay in contact and let them know if you require any assistance.
Stay well,

Weekly Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)...
Welcome to Week 4 of Term 2. On behalf of the staff and students, it’s great to see Prep and Grade 1 back in full swing. This week’s PBL lesson is: Respectful – Respecting Others’ Learning. At Calliope State School, as in the workforce and everyday life, it’s important to remember that we are part of a group, which is why it is important to respect others’ learning. We can do this by:
- Raising our hand over calling out;
- Allowing other students to work without interruption;
- Save our talk for discussion time; and,
- Remaining in our seat.
This strategy works just as well in the classroom as it does in the learning from home environment, so please take a few minutes to go over this with your child/children. For those learning at home, you can find the weekly PBL lesson in your Wellbeing folder on the EdStudio.
Also, please check out Calliope News on Facebook this week and be sure to like and share it.
Thanks.
