Welcome to week nine. This Friday we have our end of term assembly, followed by open classrooms and a picnic on the lawn. I look forward to seeing parents and caregivers on Friday as I move around classrooms. There will be no assembly in week ten.
Prep Enrolment Interviews
This week our Prep Interviews continue for our 2024 enrolments. Now is the time to book an interview time if your child is starting Prep next year. Prep eligibility for children is from the beginning of the school year in which they will reach the age of 5 years by June 30. All Queensland children are required to undertake Prep, prior to commencing Year 1.
Early or delayed entry to Prep are options which may be considered in specific circumstances and where it is in a child's best educational interests. Please ensure you have your child on our list and an interview time booked, so that we are able to make the best placement, based on your child’s needs to enable us to begin creating our classes for our Prep students who are commencing in 2024.
Calliope State School Dress Code
Attached to the bottom of this newsletter is Calliope State School’s Dress Code. I have been impressed with the tremendous number of students who are wearing our uniform in-line with our Dress Code. There are a few who may have forgotten some aspects. Please take a moment to review our Dress Code. Bike Pants can be worn with either black skorts or pleated skirt, but are not to be worn unaccompanied. Hair that is longer than shoulder length is to be tied back and coloured hair needs to be saved for the holidays. If anyone requires any assistance with purchasing a uniform, please contact the office.
Student Code of Conduct
Each week I will focus on an aspect of Calliope’s Student Code of Conduct. This week the focus continues on Cyberbullying.

It has been a huge term for us in P/1D. We have the pleasure of having a new Promethean ActivPanel interactive board in our classroom and we are loving all of the activities that we are doing on it. It has made us very engaged in our whole class learning and we are loving that we can use it independently in group times as well.
We have been doing daily writing and our confidence is growing with writing sentences and using punctuation. The Preps are growing so much in their reading this term, and have started guided reading in group times.
The Year 1s have enjoyed making musical instruments for Science and the Preps have done lots of investigations involving the movement of objects.
We are looking forward to some very exciting things in Term 4. It is hard to believe that we are almost ¾ of the way through the school year.

Port to Park Update
Congratulations to our 48 participants in this year’s Port to Park Fund Run. The school will receive $345.00 through this participation. Students and staff who participated in 2023 are invited to wear their Port to Park shirt on Monday 11 September with the rest of their regular school uniform e.g. black shorts.
Thank you for supporting this event and supporting our school. We appreciate your effort.
Hi everyone! We can hardly believe we’re in week 9 of the term!
We hope all our Dads, Step-dads, Grandad’s, Uncles and role models had a very special day on Sunday! We also hope they enjoyed their gifts carefully selected for them by their children at the Father’s day Stall last week. Remember, we’re keeping the joy of giving alive for this week with our Father’s day raffle tickets still on sale for $1.00 each until Principal’s Parade this Friday, where we will draw the raffle and some lucky Dads will be showered with even more gifts!
Did your child/ren come along to the tuckshop this morning for a free sausage sizzle? We hope all the students that did; enjoyed their breakfast. This is a Breakfast Club initiative funded by the Queensland Government and is open for all students. We will be holding another sausage sizzle breakfast next week on Thursday (Sept 14th) which will coincide with R U OK Day!
Our next P&C meeting will be next Tuesday September 12th at 5:30pm in the Administration building. Even though term 3 is coming to an end, there is still so much going on around the school next term and even beyond into next year! There are many ways to get involved and coming along to a meeting doesn’t mean you need to become a member or leave with a job to do. Sticky beaking is welcomed and if you want to find out any specifics on what the P&C is up to or how we spend fundraising money; all this is discussed at meetings. Our treasurer gives a report at every meeting that provides all the details about funds in and out! If you would like a vote on how we spend and allocate fundraising money, we would love to have you come along to a meeting and fill out a membership form.
Key dates for the remainder of Term 3:
- Principal’s Parade (including Father’s day raffle draw) Friday September 8th at 9:15am.
- P&C Meeting Tuesday September 12th at 5:30pm in the Administration building.
Feel free to contact us at any time with your thoughts and ideas on: communication.calliopess@gmail.com for our Communication Officer or pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au for our Executive team.
Warm regards,
Heidi, Geoff, Angela and Lisa.
Wide World of Sports with Mrs Betts!
Your child will be bringing home the swimming permission note this week. Can you please sign and return the permission part to classroom teachers asap.
For the last 3 years Urijah has been a part of the Clinton Academy side. The dedication and determination of the Academy boys is amazing. Their training and hard work throughout the season paid off, as over thenfive tournaments they have shown great shape and discipline to come away with three tournament wins, which is an outstanding effort. In the last competition of the season the boys made it to the final against CCFC 11’s. It was a very tough match that could have went either way, the CCFC 11’s boys put in some great counter attacks and passages of play but Urijah’s U11 Raptor team just kept turning up with great efforts in both attack and defence to take control of the game and finish the final with a 2-0 victory. Well done Urijah!

Congratulations to our two talented Calliope SS girls Brooke and Isla who placed first and second in their throwing events at the Capricornia Athletic trials this term. Both girls are now in training to attend the State Athletic Championships next term.
Go Girls!
PBL Focus
This week, the students are reviewing how they speak respectfully and the expectations around this system. The students will be going over how they speak safely, respectfully and responsibly. If you wish to have a copy of the PowerPoint that the students will be engaging in to reinforce at home, please email jxran4@eq.edu.au.
Whole School Gauge
Unfortunately, we have not met our target of 20 Whole School Stamp Charts. Therefore, we will not be having the Whole School Celebration this term.

Prep Parent Interviews for 2024
2024 Prep Parent Interviews are now available.
If your child is attending Prep in 2024 at Calliope State School, interviews are now open for us to meet your family for 2024 intakes. Please contact the office on 49758333 for times and days available.
We realise that, on occasion, students may arrive late for school, or need to leave early; it is hoped that these occasions can be kept to a minimum so that the learning of the student, the class and the routine of the school is not unduly disrupted. In the event that your child is late or leaves early, please ensure that the correct procedure is followed to sign in/out by going to the Administration building and signing out on the iPad, collecting a slip and presenting it to the classroom teacher.
These processes are in place so that the teachers and school staff are aware of the movement of students at school. This is for the protection and welfare of all staff and students. It is important to look at the impact that late arrival and early departure have on a student/s education and those around them. It is not only disruptive to learning that is occurring in the classrooms at the time of arrival and departure, it is all time that accumulates to missed opportunities for learning. A student who is arriving late or leaving early by 15 minutes twice a week will miss, in total, the equivalent of 4 days of school across the year.
As you know, schools and classrooms are very busy places!
To ensure our students are fully engaged in their learning, and our office staff are able to complete their multitude of daily required tasks, we ask that parents communicate clearly with their child at the beginning of each day where you will be picking them up from in the afternoon.
As you can imagine it is extremely difficult for our office staff to field scores of phone calls asking for messages to be passed on to children regarding pick-up information.
Should you need to contact your children throughout the day, please do this via the office. These should be emergency situations only. Messages received after 1.45pm may not be acknowledged by the class in time, so please ensure children know their pick-up arrangements.
We ask parents to assist us by checking their message bank before returning calls to the school, to establish which staff member has phoned. Due to the high volume of staff within our school it is not possible for us to identify who may have called you. Please call the member on their direct number if they have provided this as this will free up the office phone lines.
The new childcare subsidy changes to daycare means childcare subsidy rates have increased. Use the child care subsidy calculator.

Donations - The office is chasing donations of size 10 to size 14 school black shorts. If you have any that your child has grown out off, we are more than happy to receive them in the office for students.
Thank you for your help.
