We can't believe we are half way through Term 4. The year has flown by and we have a busy term ahead of us full of lots of fun and learning.
This term in English we have been focusing on decoding and comparing familiar stories. We are currently working towards changing the end of a story to expand our creative skills and imagination.
During Maths we have been measuring length, mass and capacity by using different objects and materials in and out of the classroom.
In Science we have been exploring the weather which has been very exciting due to the recent thunderstorms/rainfall. We had many interesting discussions and questions. We are enjoying our water experiments and making weather wheels.
We are looking forward to making the most of our time together before the year is finished.

Dear Parents/Caregiver
The weather is getting hot. We are giving reminders for students to stay hydrated. If you could back that message for us with your child/ren we would be thankful?.
I mainly focus on three points talking to students and stepping issues out.
- Reminder that the student’s job is to learn
- Talking the students about being calm and reasonable
- Lastly, we talk about being a problem solver and stepping out situations
I have enjoyed visiting classrooms and being out at lunchtimes over the last week, seeing great work from students and really good activities happen out at lunch. At lunch I go by both ovals to remind students where they can get help and about behaviour expectations.
Thank you for your understanding on the afternoon where the storm and hail swept in. We try our best to get messaging out via Facebook at a minimum, and the staff on duty out the front to talk to parents in the carpark. That particular storm swept in late and quickly, but our amazing staff and understanding parent group made the afternoon safe.
Kind regards
Pete Stansfield

How do you wear your poppy? Current and returned servicemen and women wear theirs on the left side (the same as for medals). All others (other than those in services) should wear their poppy on their right side. The leaf should be positioned at 11 o’clock to represent the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the time that World War One formally ended.

P & C Meeting
Next Meeting: Tuesday 08/11/2022, at 6 pm in the Admin Conference room. If you would like to add anything to the agenda or send apologies, please email secretary.calliopess@gmail.com. All agenda items and apologies need to be received in writing, at the latest, one day before the meeting. This will also be the last meeting for the year, and there is a good chance for a little celebration.
Tuckshop News
We need you!!! Miss Lisa can always use an extra set of hands or two each tuckshop day to make sure your kids get their food as quickly as possible at break times. Friday is Miss Lisa’s busiest day; it is always a rush to get your child’s food ready and packed on time so an extra pair of hands would be appreciated. If you’d like to lend a hand, please contact Miss Lisa via our Facebook page or pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au
Parents are reminded that ice creams and ice blocks need to be collected from the tuckshop by the students with their paper bags. Without your help, the tuckshop will not be able to continue to run as it does.
Taste Buds Fundraiser
Taste buds are a variety of yummy spice blends, savoury salts & rubs and versatile mixes and the best part is you can order online, and they are delivered straight to your door. Remember to use the code Calliope at checkout to fundraise for your kids. Feel free to share the link with friends and family. More information on the Calliope State School P & C Facebook page or Visit https://tastebudsfundraising.com.au/?ref=Calliope
Uniform Shop
The Uniform shop is via appointment only; if you need to make an appointment, please email the uniform shop email address below. Otherwise, orders can be done on QKR. *Please note that orders can take up to 3 business days to fill after the day of order.* These items are then taken to the office, and the students are contacted to collect them. If you haven’t received your uniform order, please check, if it has been three days, that it’s not in your child’s school bag (we all have that one child) and that it’s not in the classroom. Please remember if you have any concerns the admin ladies are probably unlikely to be able to solve them, contact us via our Facebook page or email uniformshop.calliopess@gmail.com
Volunteer Reminder
I would like to take this moment to remind everyone that we are volunteers, we are parents, we are employed by other organisations or companies, and that, unfortunately, although it would be amazing, we do not have endless hours in the day. Please, when contacting us be patient, be polite and be kind. We know it may be frustrating not getting a response straight away however please understand you are not being ignored, we just may be busy and will get to it as soon as possible. If you would like to help lighten the load and volunteer, please reach out we would love to have you on board. As a group of volunteers, we understand how difficult it is to find time for everyday life, let alone adding fundraising events to the calendar, so thank you for sparing some time to help us work towards providing funding for the children of our school.
Please don’t hesitate to stop us and say hi and ask questions.
Your P&C Team,
Tenielle, Kate, Bec & Geoff.
Please note: For the safety of our students, our gates will be closed from 9.15am everyday. Please access our main entry in front of the administration to sign your child in late or if you require to be on site.
**** Also remind your child it is our school's expectation that when arriving late to school, they must come through the office and receive a late slip before heading to class.
Reminders for Parents/Caregivers
Update Contact Details
We would like to remind all parents/carers to update your contact details. Have you changed jobs, address, internet provider or have a new phone number? Do you have a need to update your personal details, phone numbers, mobile numbers, addresses, email, emergency contacts, court orders to name but a few.
If you have had some changes to any of the above or wish to update your emergency contacts, please email: admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au or update through contacting our school office.
Early Collection of Student/s:
We realise that, on occasion, students may arrive late for school, or need to leave early; it is hoped that these occasions can be kept to a minimum so that the learning of the student, the class and the routine of the school is not unduly disrupted. In the event that your child is late or leaves early, please ensure that the correct procedure is followed to sign in/out by going to the Administration building signing out on the iPad, collect a slip and present it to the classroom teacher.
These processes are in place so that the teachers and school staff are aware of the movement of students at school. This is for the protection and welfare of all staff and students. It is important to look at the impact that late arrival and early departure have on a student/s education and those around them. It is not only disruptive to learning that is occurring in the classrooms at the time of arrival and departure, it is all time that accumulates to missed opportunities for learning. A student who is arriving late or leaving early by 15 minutes twice a week will miss, in total, the equivalent of 4 days of school across the year.
Messages to Students
As you know, schools and classrooms are very busy places!
To ensure our students are fully engaged in their learning, and our office staff are able to complete their multitude of daily required tasks, we ask that parents communicate clearly with their child at the beginning of each day where you will be picking them up from in the afternoon.
As you can imagine it is extremely difficult for our office staff to field scores of phone calls asking for messages to be passed on to children regarding pick-up information.
Should you need to contact your children throughout the day, please do this via the office. These should be emergency situations only. Messages received after 1.45pm may not be acknowledged by the class in time, so please ensure children know their pick-up arrangements.
Notification of Students Leaving Calliope SS
If you have a child /children who will be leaving Calliope State School during, or at the end of Term 4 this year, can you please notify the school office as soon as possible. Please notify our office via email at admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au or phone on 4975 8333.
Travel to and from School - Road Safety
We would like to remind families to ensure that they supervise their children on their way to and from school. There have been some recent comments about unsafe road crossings and other disrespectful interactions. Whilst the students may come from our school, it is a parent/carers responsibility to ensure their child’s appropriate behaviour outside of school hours. Have you given your child/ren a reminder about safe, respectful and responsible actions whilst travelling to and from school recently?
