- CALLIOPE RURAL FIRE BRIGADE Community Open Day
From Week 3 there will be a change in leadership at Calliope State School with Pete Stansfield appointed as Principal for Term 4 before Moira McKenzie returns as the permanently appointed Principal in 2023.
Pete is an experienced principal with many years leading primary schools; however, his most recent appointment is as the Principal of Calliope State High School. His understanding of this community and his knowledge around the transition for our Year 6 to year 7 will be invaluable.
While we acknowledge that the unavoidable changes over the past term have been less than ideal, we are confident that Pete will provide the school with strong and supportive leadership.
While my time at Calliope State School has been short, it was wonderful to experience this great school and I am genuinely sad to be leaving. I have been impressed with the dedication of the staff and the friendly and engaging nature of the students and parents. I will be taking up the role of Principal at Calliope State High School and look forward to working with Pete to ensure consistency for all staff, students and families from Prep to Year 10. In this capacity, I hope our paths will cross again. Thank you for your support.
Regards
Dave Romagnolo
Acting Principal
The 5/6E classroom is full of excitement this term! Year 6 are excited to be in the final stages of their Primary School Years with High School Transition Days and Graduation quickly approaching. Year 5 are excited as they begin thinking about the possibility of representing Calliope State School as a Year 6 School Leader in 2023. But, Mrs Sellin still has lots of work for them to get through before they can really sink their teeth into those moments!
A subject that has ignited their curiosity early in the term is Science. Year 6 are learning about the requirements for the transfer of electricity in a circuit and will also learn how energy can be transformed from one form to another to generate electricity. Year 5 are investigating everyday phenomena associated with the transfer of light. Both year levels will be engaged with their learning through lots of hands-on investigations.

Student Learning and Wellbeing
Welcome to Week 2! This week's PBL focus is ‘Resilience during Learning’. The lesson focuses on resilience during learning and knowing that if we keep trying, we will succeed. Students will learn ways they can build resilience for learning and life. Students are encouraged to seek help when they are unsure of something and keep practicing till, they master the skill. We as teachers see these as lightbulb moments, which are celebrated in every classroom.
Enrolment packages are now available at the school office. Please visit or contact Administration on 4975 8333 for further information. Enrolment Interviews are now available for this Friday. Please book in a time for you and your child if they are starting Prep in 2023.
One of the important documents required to be sighted as part of enrolling in Prep is your child’s Birth Certificate. If you do not have a copy please click the link below to complete the application form and for information on steps to apply:
Congratulations to 4C who had an amazing attendance rate for week 1. Their attendance rate was 97.72% for the Week!
Also, congratulations to the 5 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 1.
Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
Wide World of Sports with Mrs Betts!
Over the holidays, one of our Calliope students Leah competed in the Australia Gymnastics National Clubs Carnival. Leah and her partner did very well, competing in Acrobatic Gymnastics Level 6, achieving a Gold medal in their Balance Routine, Bronze in their Dynamic Routine and an overall Bronze. What a year Leah has had in gymnastics! She also won the Gold medal in the QLD State Championships, back in August.
Well done Leah! We are super proud of your sporting achievements!

Reminders for Parents/Caregivers
Update Contact Details
We would like to remind all parents/carers to update your contact details. Have you changed jobs, address, internet provider or have a new phone number? Do you have a need to update your personal details, phone numbers, mobile numbers, addresses, email, emergency contacts, court orders to name but a few.
If you have had some changes to any of the above or wish to update your emergency contacts, please email: admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au or update through contacting our school office.
Early Collection of Student/s:
We realise that, on occasion, students may arrive late for school, or need to leave early; it is hoped that these occasions can be kept to a minimum so that the learning of the student, the class and the routine of the school is not unduly disrupted. In the event that your child is late or leaves early, please ensure that the correct procedure is followed to sign in/out by going to the Administration building signing out on the iPad, collect a slip and present it to the classroom teacher.
These processes are in place so that the teachers and school staff are aware of the movement of students at school. This is for the protection and welfare of all staff and students. It is important to look at the impact that late arrival and early departure have on a student/s education and those around them. It is not only disruptive to learning that is occurring in the classrooms at the time of arrival and departure, it is all time that accumulates to missed opportunities for learning. A student who is arriving late or leaving early by 15 minutes twice a week will miss, in total, the equivalent of 4 days of school across the year.
Messages to Students
As you know, schools and classrooms are very busy places!
To ensure our students are fully engaged in their learning, and our office staff are able to complete their multitude of daily required tasks, we ask that parents communicate clearly with their child at the beginning of each day where you will be picking them up from in the afternoon.
As you can imagine it is extremely difficult for our office staff to field scores of phone calls asking for messages to be passed on to children regarding pick-up information.
Should you need to contact your children throughout the day, please do this via the office. These should be emergency situations only. Messages received after 1.45pm may not be acknowledged by the class in time, so please ensure children know their pick-up arrangements.
Notification of Students Leaving Calliope SS
If you have a child /children who will be leaving Calliope State School during, or at the end of Term 4 this year, can you please notify the school office as soon as possible. Please notify our office via email at admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au or phone on 4975 8333.
Please note: For the safety of our students, our gates will be closed from 9.15am everyday. Please access our main entry in front of the administration to sign your child in late or if you require to be on site.
**** Also remind your child it is our school's expectation that when arriving late to school, they must come through the office and receive a late slip before heading to class.
P&C NEWS
Welcome to Week 2 of Term 4! The year is flying by and as we begin the run-up to end-of-year craziness, we would like to thank everyone who has been involved with the P and C so far. As a group of volunteers, we understand how difficult it is to find time for everyday life, let alone adding fundraising events to the calendar, so thank you for sparing some time to help us work towards providing funding for the children of our school.
P & C Meeting
Next Meeting: Tonight - Tuesday, 11/10/2022, at 6 pm in the admin conference room. If you would like to add anything to the agenda or send apologies, please email pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au All agenda items and apologies need to be received by 5pm prior to the meeting.
Calliope Rodeo Drinks Stall
Thank you to all the volunteers who stepped up and helped at the drinks stall over the two days of the Rodeo! It was a great success and we have been invited back again for their January 28th event, keep your eyes peeled!!! We all had a great time and look forward to our next fundraiser. A massive thank you to our past students, Ava, Rhi and Tay for their help all weekend.
Tuckshop News
Our fabulous tuckshop convener, Miss Lisa, has been working hard as normal, filling hungry bellies this term. We would like to thank Miss Lisa and Miss Mel for their daily efforts and the amazing food you provide for our kids.
Miss Lisa can always use an extra set of hands or two each tuckshop day to make sure your kids get their food as quickly as possible at break times. If you’d like to lend a hand, please contact Miss Lisa via our Facebook page or pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au
Parents are reminded that ice creams and ice blocks need to be collected from the tuckshop by the students with their paper bags. Without your help, the tuckshop will not be able to continue to run as it does.
