Creative 3B News
In Science, we have been busy creating our interpretations of the Sun, Moon and Earth movements. All students were engaged in the designing and creating of their space dioramas and this reflected in their understanding of the topic and being able to extend their explanations in their written assessments.

This term in English, we are reading, comprehending and writing a retell of a known story 'The Lorax'. At the end of the unit we will be presenting our spoken retell of The Lorax from a different character’s perspective. The students will be designing and creating costumes and props to entertain their peers during their presentation. So, 3B students and parents get your thinking caps on.

WORKFORCE PLANNING – Combining classes
We are currently experiencing a larger number of staff out on leave than usual, due to the ongoing nature of managing COVID and the flu season. We have limited access to relief teachers for the same reasons.
In line with the COVID guidelines for schools, we have a plan in place to ensure the continuity of learning for all students and to minimise the disruption to student learning as much as possible. There will be times that we will need to combine same year level classes. We will try to limit this as much as possible; however, there will be circumstances where this will have to occur.
We appreciate your understanding and support during these times.
INCURSION
On Wednesday 17 August 2022, Dion Drummond Indigenous Performance will be visiting Calliope State School as part of our Reconciliation Action Plan and NAIDOC Week celebrations. In his school visits, Dion shares tales and artefacts from his cultures, teaching students about the different traditions of both Torres Strait Island and Aboriginal storytelling, song and dance.
FREE PREP VISION SCREENING
Good vision is important for a child’s educational, physical and social development. Vision screening checks for common eye conditions that may impact your child’s ability to see and therefore impact their learning and development.
A Registered Nurse will be visiting the school on Monday 29 August 2022 to conduct vision screening for children in their Prep year. If you wish to have your Prep child participate in this free vision screening program, please complete an online consent form by 23 August 2022. See link below. Parents do not need to be present for screening; however, if you would like to be, please contact the school to arrange this.
If your child’s vision is screened, you will be advised of the results in writing. If a vision concern is found, you will receive a phone call from the nurse to discuss referral to an eye health professional for further assessment. If a vision concern is identified and your child requires glasses, eligible health care card holders may be assisted with free basic glasses through the Spectacle Supply Scheme.
Participation in vision screening is not compulsory. If you do not wish for your child to participate in screening, please complete the consent form and indicate that you wish to decline screening.
Please click on the following link to access the Online Consent Form and Parent Information Letter: https://visionscreening.health.qld.gov.au/ParentalConsent/13126dUn. Alternatively, you can scan the QR code below:
Please note: The consent form link will close on Tuesday 23rd August 2022.
If you have any questions, please contact the Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program on 1800 687 372.

Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
Welcome to Week 6! This weeks PBL focus is ‘Transitions’. Students explore why it is
important to move around the school in a safe and respectful manner. Our wonderful Mrs Sellin videoed her AMAZING 5/6E students moving around the school, showing other classes how this should look. Thanks 5/6E and Mrs Sellin for your help!
The key steps are:
Walk in two lines (directly behind the person in front of you)
Stand an arm’s length apart from the person in front of you
Walk appropriately (try not to shuffle or stomp)
Walk to the left of the pathways
Keep your eyes forward watching where you are going
Keep your voice quiet
Keep your body to yourself
Wait quietly at your destination
This term, our end of term PBL celebration will be a Disco. Keep those whole class stamp charts coming in. Our term goal is 20 charts. More information regarding the disco will be coming in the next week or two.
