HEAD OF SPECIAL EDUCATION (HoSES)
Our substantive Head of Special Education, Kayleen Bishop, has been successful in becoming the permanent HoSES at Gladstone West State School. We wish Kayleen all the best with her future endeavors. Amanda Whale will continue in the Acting HoSES role here at Calliope State School until the end of Term 2.
LOST PRORERTY
We have a large number of lost property items sitting outside of the Administration building, in the Undercroft, in our Lost Property basket. Please come up at your earliest convenience to see if any of the items belong to your children. They will be donated to charity towards the end of term.
DAY FOR DANIEL – JUNE 1
Last Wednesday, Calliope State School welcomed Denise and Bruce Morecombe from the Daniel Morecombe Foundation to talk to our students and staff about child safety. They were impressed seeing so many students and staff wearing red, in recognition of Day for Daniel.
Students learnt the important strategy of 'Recognise, React and Report' if in an unsafe situation.
Thank you to our school community for your support of this event.
SCHOOL OFFICER DAY AND SCHOOL CLEANERS DAY – WEEK 8
Lee Newby is our School Officer. Please help us celebrate the vital role that Lee plays in education at our school. If you see Lee around the grounds this week, make sure you take the time to stop and thank him for the work that he does in maintaining our school and ensuring the gardens and grounds always look outstanding. THANK YOU, Lee!
School Cleaners Day is a joint initiative of the Department and United Voice and will be celebrated Friday June 10. School Cleaners Day provides an opportunity for school communities to celebrate the valuable contributions of our cleaners; Suzie Coates, Shelley Law, Sally Mitchell, Pimm and Lisa O’Connor.
RECONCILIATION WEEK
National Reconciliation Week acts as a time for Australians to learn about their common histories, cultures, and achievements. The students at Calliope SS decorated hands in a learning experience, thinking about how Australians can join hands with each other and contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
We show respect.
We share this land.
We walk together, hand in hand.
STAFF OF THE WEEK LEADERSHIP AWARD – Kelly Sellin
Kelly enacts the ‘Every Calliope State School Student Succeeding’ with enthusiasm and attention to detail.
Kelly’s Learning Walls are high standard examples of Visible Learning and her implementation of the Australian Curriculum, through the CSS Reading Framework is also exemplary.
Kelly also demonstrates a high standard of Collegial Engagement through her work as a Beginning Teacher Mentor.
STAFF MEMBER OF THE WEEK PEER AWARD – Monique Cheeseman
I would like to nominate Monique Cheesman. Monique is an enthusiastic and spontaneous teacher who incorporates age-appropriate pedagogy into her classroom wherever possible. She builds amazing relationships with her students and is always seeking ways to engage her students in their learning. Monique is great at sharing ideas and is very creative. She works hard to create an inviting and calm space within her classroom that the children love to interact with.
FINAL THOUGHT
4B have had a very productive and busy term so far!
We finished creating our pinball machines with great success, and a lot of fun doing so.
In Science we have been investigating the different properties of materials, and enjoyed mixing different liquids with ochre for our assessment investigating smudge resistance.
We have been getting more confident with our spelling and enjoy using our Popit’s this term to help us identify how many sounds are in a word.
4B Classroom Teacher

Congratulations to 2D who had an amazing attendance rate for Week 7. Their attendance rate was 97.64% for the Week!
Also, congratulations to the 6 classes which were at or above our school attendance target of 94% for Week 7.
Remember, every day you are away is a learning day lost.
