The Arts at Calliope SS

This semester in The Arts has been full of imagination, creation and fun!

Prep and Year 4 have been practising their visual arts skills as they use the design elements of texture, space, colour and shape to create meaning in their artworks.  I have been blown away by their use of imagination in their creations. 

Years 1 and 5 have been exploring the world of media arts where they have used technology to create illusions in their artwork.  Year 1 students have learned how to remove a background on a self portrait to make it look like they are somewhere else entirely, and Year 5 students have created a stop motion film where they brought inanimate objects to life. 

Years 3 and 3/4E have been dancing the semester away and have learned how to recognize and utilize the elements of dance (space, action, time, relationships and dynamics) in a performance to create meaning. 

Years 2 and 6, as well as 5/6E have had a “dramatic” semester as they have been telling stories by using the elements of role, movement, space, voice, tension and mood.  Year 2 students re-enacted popular stories using their improvisation skills and imagination. Year 6 students used the elements of drama to devise and perform documentary dramas and 5/6E devised and performed melodramas that included heroes, villains and damsels.

I have enjoyed helping students express their creative side and look forward to a semester full of music! Thank you for a great semester Calliope!
