What's Happening in Prep A
This term has been a very busy one in Prep A. We have learning how to retell a story and have been studying Fairytales and traditional stories. Our classroom has been a-buzz with children acting out the fairytales using story prompts and it has been great to hear them use character voices and words from the story when they are retelling.
In Science, we have been learning all about materials and their properties and we are gearing up to do a few STEM challenges related to our Fairytales. We will be testing the Little Pigs’ houses against the Big Bad Blowdryer and designing and creating our own houses to test. We have also learnt about how to grind wheat into flour when we read “The Little Red Hen” and used the mortar and pestle to try it out.
Term 2 is such a fun term for Age Appropriate Pedagogy and child-initiated activities as we work our way through the alphabet and come up with fun craft activities to do for each sound we are learning.
We have learnt about measuring using informal units and measured our feet and compared them to each other’s, using terms such as “longer”, “shorter”, etc.
