5B are feeling rested after the holidays and have come back to school refreshed and ready to make new discoveries. In our English unit we have been learning about the fantasy genre and we are working our way up to writing a first chapter of a fantasy novel. The students have been very knowledgeable on dragons, fae people, goblins and other fantasy creatures. Their character descriptions have left me amused.

In Maths we have finally cracked open our kent sets, and we are learning how to use a protractor and compass in our angle’s unit.

In Science we are looking at space. This is my favourite subject to teach and it is amazing to watch the students’ reactions when they find out new facts. Their minds were blown when we were comparing the sizes of different space objects, they couldn’t believe the size of other stars. Tomorrow we visit the star lab which is a giant inflatable dome where students learn about space through documentaries, experiments and stories. A big thankyou to Mrs Fennel for organising the Starlab incursion.
