ANZAC DAY SERVICES 2022

On Friday, our student leaders led a very successful, moving ANZAC ceremony here at school. Overall, there was a high degree of respect shown by all students throughout the ceremony and as their parents/carers, you should all be very proud.

I want to extend an overall thank you to parents and carers who supported the students to attend the ANZAC Day services that were held in the local area on Monday morning. Again, the students marching on behalf of the school were very respectful and represented the school proudly.  A special thank you goes to Ms Norris, Mrs Crapp, Mrs Smith-Ashton and Mrs Mastromonaco for supporting the students at the Dawn Service in Gladstone and Mrs Crapp, Mrs Smith-Ashton, Mrs Mastromonaco and Miss Williams for supporting the students at the Calliope Service.

A huge thank you needs to be extended to Ms Norris and Mrs Smith-Ashton who, in the background, put a large amount of time and effort into preparing the school ceremony on Friday morning and preparing the leaders and other members of the school community for participation in the ANZAC Day services within the community. Their tireless effort did not go unnoticed and it is very much appreciated. On behalf of the Calliope State School community, thank you!

Thank you to Mrs Marshall for the very engaging speech at our school ceremony on Friday and bringing to life, in a respectful way, the reality of what war means for some children and nations and how thankful we should all be about the country we live in. As the grandchild of a veteran who returned from World War II, you were correct in saying that the effects of war impact people right through the generations, including children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. This was a message that was shared at the local ANZAC services and services across the Nation. On behalf of the community, I would like to thank Ms Marshall for supporting and representing not only the RSL as the president but also the school at the Gladstone Dawn Service and our local ANZAC service on Monday in Calliope.

Another special thank you needs to go to Miss Williams for the work she did organising the Choir to sing at the ANZAC services both at school and the local Calliope Parade on Monday. The students sang beautifully. It was a touching tribute.

NAPLAN

Calliope State School will be participating in NAPLAN Online again in 2022. Calliope State School’s NAPLAN test window will be from Tuesday 10 May – Monday 16 May.

We are currently in the process of finalising student participation for the tests. Adjustments for students with a disability will be put in place to support their access and to facilitate maximum participation. All students in Years 3 and 5 are encouraged to participate. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s participation in NAPLAN, please contact your child’s class teacher.

Please see the Calliope State School’s NAPLAN timetable below.

QUEENSLAND ENGAGEMENT AND WELLBEING SURVEY

In Week 2 and 3, Term 2, students will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey.

We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The QEW Survey is designed to measure how students view their wellbeing and engagement across different topics. The information we get from the survey helps us better understand and support our students.

If you have any questions, please contact the school. More information, including FAQs, can be found on the Education website: (https://qed.qld.gov.au/publications/reports/statistics/schooling/students/queensland-engagement-wellbeing-survey).

PUBLIC HOLIDAY

Just to communicate with parents/carers, next Monday’s public holiday, Monday 2 May, is the May Day Holiday.
