Sean Choolburra - Indigenous Performance 5 August 2021
On Thursday, 5 August, students are encouraged to watch and participate in an Indigenous Performance as part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations at Calliope State School.
The aim of the activiity is to give students a better understanding and more knowledge of Indigenous Culture whilst enjoying a fun-filled performance from Sean Choolburra, who was the creator and leader of the Naroo Dancers.
Sean Choolburra was born and raised in Townsville and his ancestors are Gu-Gu-Yalanji, Kalkadoon, Kandju and Bwgcolman from around Townsville and Palm Island. His performances are hugely entertaining and filled with humour. He has toured schools and colleges throughout Australia, Canada, Japan and New Zealand for over 20 years with his unique cultural program.
There will be lots of dances, stories, painting and didgeridoo playing, presented with a wonderful array of artefacts from fishing nets to hunting shields.
