Calliope Wide World of Sports with Mrs Betts!

Calliope Wide World of Sports.JPG

This term, our Calliope U10 football team represented our school at the PJ Marsh Cup competition. The boys played awesome games in the sweltering heat and came third place overall. I was super proud of the team spirit and sportsmanship on the day. All players gave their best and played well.

A big congratulations to Mason Mc, Parks and Kellan who made the Capricornia team (Only 13 were selected out of the 160 boys who played on the day).

Last week, Leo Rays travelled to Moranbah to represent Port Curtis in the Capricornia AFL trials. He played well and was a true winner the way he conducted himself, working with and encouraging his Port Curtis team mates.

On Wednesday afternoons, our three Calliope girls, Mikayla, Krystal and Jenna participated in the Chelsea Baker Cup competition. The girls won the Cup with their

fellow barbarian team. Awesome work girls!
These students positive attitude and sportsmanship while representing our school were commendable. Well done!
Congratulations to Bella and Ruby Gibson and Jaydyn Hawkins who qualified for Regional Little Athletics. They participated in the Queensland State Championships on the weekend in Brisbane. The girls did very well in all their events! Well done girls, we are super proud of you both!

For more action shots of our rugby league players please check out our Calliope State School Facebook page.

Age Grouping

Most students will run in their respective age groups not in year levels.  An example here would be if a student in Year 4 were turning 10 this year then he or she would run with students in Year 5 as most students in Year 5 would be turning 10 this year.

Distances for Age Groups

  • Prep year will run their small course. (approx. 500m)
  • Grade 1 will run their small course. (approx. 500m)
  • Grade 2 will run their small course. (approx. 500m)
  • Grade 3 will run 1 lap of the course. (approx. 900m)
  • 9 year olds will run 1 lap of the course (approx. 900m)
  • 10 year olds will run 2 laps of the course (approx. 1800m)
  • 11 year olds will run 3 laps of the course (approx. 2700m)
  • 12 year olds will run 3 laps of the course (approx. 2700m)

Port Curtis Selections

Only 10, 11 and 12 year olds are eligible for Port Curtis selection.  9 year olds competing in our School Cross Country are gaining practice for next year when they are eligible for selection. I will advise these students of dates, distances and venues as I receive them.  The top five students from each category are eligible to compete at the Port Curtis Cross Country Friday 30th April 2021.

Student Preparation

Remind students on the day before to bring their hats, a water bottle and wear good covered shoes that they can run in (no skate shoes, boots etc.). Remind students that this is a fun event with an emphasis on participation not competition
