Principal's Piece

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

welcome02.JPG
Welcome back to another year of learning at Calliope State School.  It has been lovely for everyone in our school community to have a relaxing break and connect with family and friends. We welcome many new families to our school this year and know you will find your time with us at Calliope will be rewarded with quality learning for every student.  Our strategic plan has two global strategies – Every student included, every teacher excelling.  At Calliope we recognise that all students have differing strengths and it is our intention to ensure that every student reaches their learning potential at our school, whilst developing their unique areas of interest.

We also welcome new staff to our team in 2021.

Student Code of Conduct

This year, we will commence implementing our school’s Student Code of Conduct.  You can view a copy at the following address, https://calliopess.eq.edu.au/supportandresources/formsanddocuments/documents/calliope%20ss%20student%20code%20of%20conduct%202020signed.pdf.

Our Student Code of Conduct was developed last year, through community consultation.

Welcome back into our school

It is fantastic to be able to welcome our parents and caregivers back into the school this year, whilst maintaining COVID safe practices.  During book drop offs last week and this morning, I had the pleasure of meeting several of our parents.  Communication between the home and school is vital for your child’s learning.  I am looking forward to meeting parents and caregivers as the term progresses.

Routines

Mornings – Parents and carers can enter the school grounds from 8:45am and drop off their child/children at the classroom.  Teachers have communicated with families, the time that their classrooms will be open. All entering the school grounds will be required to hand sanitise and social distance (1.5 m) as well as observe limited numbers of adults in classrooms.

Normal before school routines will be in place for students arriving before 8.45am

Students arriving before 8.30am – go to undercroft (beside Office)

Students arriving after 8.30am – go to the oval

Afternoons - For the first few weeks of school, our established Afternoon Collection will remain in place, except for Prep. Once learning has concluded, learners will be released to the set departure points and families are to meet students off site, such as Stop, Drop and Go or gates. Students with siblings go to the exit point for the youngest sibling.

Prep parents are able to meet at the following areas from 3.00pm to collect their child. Social distancing must be maintained.

Prep A and Prep B – covered Prep eating area

Prep C and Prep D – Prep playground

Parents wanting to discuss their child with the class teacher are asked to make an appointment, rather than talk in the classroom while students are present. This allows the teacher to focus on the discussion.

COVID ‘normal’ health practices still apply to all adults on school sites. Visit  https://www.vision6.com.au/ch/684/2dnz3pt/2488582/AfwTrhG16HDag8m4XudYkKkay0wsrgUcX6_8Ip65.html for more information. These practices include physical distancing between adults, not exceeding occupant density limits for rooms, staying home if sick and regular COVID safe hygiene measures.

Please consider taking a few minutes to view this video, https://youtu.be/k7X54JrjJAQ developed by the Department of Education.

There will be no requirement to obtain parents’ and carers’ contact details, as these are already recorded in OneSchool and can be used for contact tracing by Queensland Health if needed. However, all other visitors need to adhere to COVID school visitor and Sign In arrangements.

Wishing you all a safe, healthy and wonderful year of learning ahead.

Kind Regards,
