The month of May is Scholastic’s National Family Reading Month and at Calliope State School we will be celebrating reading with several events this month.

Book Fair will be held in Week 5 of this term. We will be open for students and parents to purchase books before school and during the first lunch break.

National Simultaneous Storytime will be held on Wednesday 21 May. Students at Calliope State School will join students from around Australia and New Zealand in reading The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel at 12pm.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge also begins this month. This state-wide initiative aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read widely for pleasure and leaning. Students will be given a recording form to log the books that they read throughout the reading period.
