Principal Message
Welcome to Week two of Term Two. Last week the school came together on Thursday to commemorate ANZAC Day. We were joined by several special guests including the cadets from Calliope State High School. We are very proud of all our students who participated in the service. Our school also participated in the Dawn Service in Gladstone and at the Calliope Service later in the day. Thank you to all staff who make this day a special day to remember all Australian personnel who have served in wars, conflict and peace operations.
Guidance Officers Week
Guidance officers play an invaluable role in supporting students and school communities across Queensland. At Calliope we are lucky to have two amazing Guidance Officers, Tracee Ward and Lucy Hodgkinson. Tracee and Lucy work extensively to support all students at our school.
This Guidance Officer Week (Monday 28 April to Friday 2 May) we celebrate their contribution in providing counselling, advice and leadership across the areas of educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family, mental health and wellbeing.
School staff play a vital role in recognising the early signs of students' stress or struggles.
If you think a student may benefit from support, reach out to our school’s guidance officers.
Equity and Excellence
School performance planning and monitoring
- We use our school strategic plan to outline who we are as a school and what lies at the core of our school community.
- The strategic plan outlines our focus for four years. It was written following a school review. The recommendations from that review and the collaborative discussions with the school community informed the content of the plan.
- The AIP is the plan for the annual actions that will be taken over the next 12 months to make progress on the strategic priorities.
- We keep the number of priorities in the AIP to a minimum so that we can maximise the impact of a smaller number of actions. We focus on what our students need, and what actions we are taking together to meet those needs.
- The school data plan outlines what data is beings used to understand what our students need and how we monitor the impact of the actions taken.
- Clear priorities and agreed actions frees up teachers to know what to focus on in the classroom, and it builds trust through the transparency that is possible when decisions are aligned to the school strategic plan and AIP for the year.
- An effective set of priorities supports teachers and leaders for focus on what matter matters most, and frees them up from other activities that are no longer aligned to the school strategic improvement agenda.
