Principal Message

Welcome to Week Eight of Term One. Congratulations to all our Year three and five students who participated in NAPLAN this week.  Thank you to Beemart for donating and providing fruit for our 2025 NAPLAN students.  This gave our students a great start to the NAPLAN testing.

Last night the P&C AGM was held.  With this I would like to thank our previous committee for their dedication and hard work.  We would like to thank Geoff for his time as president. His leadership has been invaluable. We are excited to welcome our new president, Jodi Hallam, and look forward to working with her in the year ahead.

Geoff is staying on with us in the role of vice president, and we’re thrilled to continue working alongside him in this new capacity.

Please see below our newly voted in executive committee:

President -  Jodi Hallam

Vice President - Geoff Kerr

Treasurer - Angela Kummerfeld

Secretary - Lisa Newby

With this strong leadership team in place, we’re excited to see what the year will bring!

“Phones Away”

Picture1.png

Students across the state have identified positive behaviour changes in response to the Phones Away for the Day policy. We at Calliope State School have had a phones away policy for many years.  As this is now a state-wide policy, we are finding our students are following our processes of handing in phones each day to the office.

Parent Teacher Interviews

In 2025, Calliope State School will be offering formal interviews in Terms 1 and 3. An email with an invitation to attend a parent interview on Tuesday 1 April will be sent this week from your child’s class teacher.

On the form emailed home. please indicate your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd preference for times. These interviews will be conducted face to face in the hall. If you would prefer a phone interview, please indicate this on the form.

Nude Food at Calliope State School
We are in our third week of Nude Food at Calliope State School and would like to thank our school community for your efforts and feedback.
There has been a lot of excitement around our changes. Our Year 3 and 4 students have been working hard in Health to bring us Nude Food lunchbox examples.
A Nude Food lunchbox is one that eliminates disposable wrappers and single-use packaging, such as plastic, foil or ziplock bags. Instead, it focuses on packaging-free foods, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional packed lunches.  Nude Food doesn't require expensive lunchboxes or perfectly curated meals - simple and sustainable is the key!
We have received feedback from parents, staff and senior student leaders and have made some small changes to our processes.
On Monday mornings, students who have nude food lunches may show their classroom teacher and receive a ticket into the weekly 'nude-food draw'. Students will take their ticket to the office and place it in the Nude-food box., ready for the draw on assembly. This is not a compulsory inititative but is also encouraged as part of students working hard in Health to identify alternate healthy food options.
