Strong Communities
Supporting Kids as They Head Back to School

Back-to-school season can bring excitement and anxiety for children. For parents, this is a golden opportunity to strengthen your connection and help your child feel secure during transitions, both now and in the future

Attachment research shows that children thrive when they feel emotionally supported, especially during times of change. Here’s how you can help:

Whether they’re excited, nervous, or both, validate their emotions. “It’s okay to feel this way—I’m here for you.” This builds trust and helps them process big feelings.

Predictability fosters security. Go over their daily schedule, pack their bag together, and establish a comforting morning routine to help them feel prepared.

Children need to know they can turn to you when things get tough. Offer reminders: “I’m proud of you no matter what. If you need me, I’m always here to listen.”

Did they make a new friend, ask a question in class, or face a challenge? Celebrate these moments to reinforce their sense of competence and courage.

Remember, your presence and encouragement give them the confidence to explore their world and face new challenges.
Here’s to a school year filled with growth, connection, and endless possibilities!
