P&C NEWS
Hi Families
Term 2 is off to a cracker start, with the arrival of the new marquees in our sports house colours and a new microwave for the preppies so they can have hours of playdoh (sensory learning) fun.
Also, a BIG thank you to Catherine Whipps (Regional Operations Manager) and her amazing team at Aurizon Callemondah for donating water bottles to the P&C.
These water bottles will be for the sick bay and will definitely brighten up this area with the splash of orange. There will be many more exciting announcements to come, so keep your eyes peeled.
The committee have been working hard to finalise the strategic plan which will provide guidance and structure on how our schools P&C operates as well as making the needs of our children the number one priority.
Over the coming weeks you will see “question time” posts on our Facebook site. This will give our parents and guardians the opportunity to have your say and provide feedback via polls or direct messages. All feedback, good or bad is welcomed.
What are you going to do with the feedback you ask? With the information provided by the school community, the P&C will know what the families of our school are wanting, and we will do our best to see if we have the capacity to fulfil your requests.
Without volunteers our vision for the school cannot be created, so we are asking if you have a spare hour or two, please lend a hand because like they say, “many hands make light work”. You don’t have to be a member of the P&C to volunteer.
Upcoming events for May/ June volunteers are needed.
- Mother’s Day Stall – Wednesday 8th May 2024
- Sports Day – June
- Under 8’s Day – June
- Sausage Sizzle – June
- Pie and Lamington Drive - June

Volunteers and Classroom Support
At Calliope State School, we encourage active participation between the school, parents and local community. This partnership enables our school community to work together towards providing the best possible supportive environment for your child and their learning. Parents are encouraged to participate in the operation of the school through several channels.
- Attending P&C meetings
- Assisting in the Tuckshop or Uniform Shop
- Providing classroom assistance ie reading groups,
- Involvement in school activities and functions ie sports events, camps
All volunteers are required to attend a Mandatory All Staff Training program (MAST) – Parent Volunteer workshop before they are able to assist.
Completing your Volunteer mandatory training has got a lot easier. We are aware we all live busy lives and unable to commit to a particular day and time to complete the training onsite. You are now able to complete the training in the comfort of your own home and in your own time.
All you need to do is click on the link, read the key messages guide, complete the declaration and submit in person to the school office. When you sign in as a volunteer via the Ipad, you are declaring you are aware of your obligations as per the key messages guide. This is valid for 12 months.
For further information or a copy of the key messages guide please email communication.calliopess@gmail.com or contact the school directly.
NOTE: All volunteers must be 18 yrs+ (other than parents of children attending the school), must have a blue card BEFORE they can commence working with children. Please click here to apply for a blue card.
If you would like more information on anything we have mentioned or anything that we haven’t, we would love to hear from you at; pandc@calliopess.eq.edu.au
Warm Regards
Geoff, Jason, Angela & Lisa
