Wide World of Sports with Mrs Betts
Some of our Calliope State School girls have participated in the Chelsea Baker Cup Rugby League skill sessions. They have had a lot of fun learning new skills and practising safe tackling. Last Wednesday, they competed for the Chelsea Baker Cup. They played three games of Rugby League. The girls played well and beat both Kin Kora and St John teams.

Year 6 Calliope State School students were very lucky to get a visit from the Capras during their visit to Gladstone to play at Marley Brown. The students had a lot of fun participating in a Rugby League skill session with the two Capra players.

Calliope State School had 14 boys attend Port Curtis Rugby League trials on Friday. Congratulations to Archie, Brax and Kyson who were selected in PC teams. Archie made the PC U12s team, and Brax and Kyson made the PC U11s team. Great effort boys!

Congratulations to all our talented sporting stars who have recently made Port Curtis teams. Summer, Ruby, Bella, Lillee and Kai for making it into the Port Curtis Touch Football team. Summer again, Brax and Will for making the PC netball team, and Adele for making the PC basketball team.
Swimming Star
Year 3 student Isabella competed in the Central Queensland Regional Swimming Championships over the weekend and won a bronze in 50m freestyle. Congratulations Isabella!
Mrs Betts will be down on the back oval at 8:35am on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings to encourage students in Year 3-6 to run laps of the oval. Each lap is recorded and there will be a competition amongst the year levels who gets the most laps. The top two-year levels will win the opportunity to play a game of dodgeball with Mrs Betts on the last day of term.
Please encourage your child to come and join us on the back oval, especially if they’ve got that little bit of extra energy that would be helpful to burn off before going into the classroom for the day.
Once again this year, some of our year levels are learning skipping in their PE lessons. To encourage students to practise their skipping skills Mrs Betts has a One Minute and Two Minute wall of fame in the hall. Students who can skip non-stop for this time can add their name to the wall of fame. At the end of term there is a fun competition (The Great Calliope Skip Off) where students on the two-minute wall of fame get the opportunity to compete in a skip off against other students and teachers. Last man/child skipping gets a prize.
This year Mrs Betts is extending the competition to parents who might what to set themselves a challenge. If you are able to make two minutes non-stop skipping you are very welcome to come join us in the skip off.
